Rep. Wendy Thomas ( D- Merrimack) is a great advocate for the people of New Hampshire. I believe that her removal was more about her leadership in leading the protests and final stoppage of the ICE site in Merrimack, New Hampshire than anything noted in the Speaker's decision noted below.
Statement on the Removal of Rep. Wendy Thomas from the Science, Technology and Energy
Concord, NH — State Representative Wendy Thomas issued the following statement in response to her removal from the House Science, Technology and Energy Committee by Chairman Michael Vose:

“After meeting with Speaker Packard on March 16 where he said he would reflect on his initial decision, I was just informed that I have been removed from the Science, Technology and Energy committee. The reasons cited in our conversation raise serious concerns about transparency, accessibility, and the standards being applied within our legislature.

The first reason given was that a simple and reasonable request was made: that I be referred to as ‘Rep. Wendy Thomas’ in committee proceedings. There are two members with the last name Thomas on the committee, and clear identification is important for the public record, especially for members of the deaf and hard of hearing community who rely on transcripts. This practice was followed without issue in the previous term, yet this year it was denied and eventually caused the chair - Rep Michael Vose to act in a threatening manner to me in the hallway about the request.

Second, I had submitted a required committee report to the Chair. While he has stated that he did not receive it, another recipient copied on the same email did receive it. As a result, the report nearly failed to make it into the House calendar. To ensure accountability and timely processing, I sent my next report directly to the administrative clerk and told the chair I had done so. This step, taken to ensure the integrity of the legislative process, was apparently unwelcome.

Finally, I was told that my removal was due to my ‘attitude.’ When I asked for clarification or a definition of what that meant, I was told, ‘it’s everything you do.’ That is not a standard, it is a dismissal.

Granite Staters expect their elected officials to ask questions, advocate for accessibility, and ensure that government processes work as intended. They also expect consistency in how members are treated and held accountable.

It is worth noting what has not led to removal from committees in this body: inflammatory rhetoric, threats of violence, or extreme statements that undermine the safety and dignity of others. Yet advocating for clarity in public records, ensuring reports are submitted, and “everything I do” is apparently grounds for dismissal.

This decision raises larger questions about how dissent, oversight, and professionalism are handled in the New Hampshire House. Our constituents deserve better.

I remain committed to doing the work I was elected to do, serving my community with integrity, transparency, and a willingness to speak up when something isn’t right.”

Veterans Day: On this Veterans Day, the use of National Guard troops for domestic law enforcement, US attacks against alleged drug smugglers in international waters, and leadership purges at the Pentagon by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth are raising questions about whether the military is being overtly politicized. If you live in Conway or Carroll County and your Medicare Advantage has been cancelled, you have some options, not many, but a couple. I’m so appreciative of our Democratic Team: Anita, Annie, David, Tom, who helped me coordinate a wonderful educational session this past Monday. Brad Dyer from Berlin’s Home Senior Solutions and Ed Hollum, a local Conway Medicare Broker. Clearly, the assistance from our community partners: Conway Sun, WMWV Radio and Valley Vision was instrumental in getting the word out, as there were almost 200 attendees. Special thanks to the First Church of Christ Congregational for their assistance in hosting this event as part of their community outreach. If you missed the presentation, you still have a couple of options available. Friday, the Gibson Senior Center in North Conway will host a free, public forum similar to Monday’s presentation. As a bonus, they have a wonderful resource at the center, Ellie, who handles Medicare questions. In addition, check the website of Valley Vision or the Sun or their schedule for the date and times of replays.

A single leaf, brooks without water and beavers with no place to hide are better than the UNACCEPTABLE comments from the House Majority Leader..see below: .....thanks Steve

From: Globe NH Morning Report
Globe New Hampshire Staff - September 15, 2025

There are currently 41 more Republicans than Democrats in the 400-seat House (not to mention a Republican super-majority in the 24-seat Senate), so the only legislation that stands a foreseeable chance in 2026 is that which has backing from Republican leadership or a large bipartisan coalition.

House Majority Leader Jason M. Osborne sent a fervent message Friday reminding fellow Republican members about this week’s legislative filing period and signaling his desire, in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, to “turn up the heat” in what he characterized as a battle of good versus evil, with a major emphasis on the classroom.

Osborne wrote that “anti-American elements” have festered in public institutions. He claimed schools are “the primary breeding grounds for polarizing propaganda meant to shred our intricate social fabric,” teachers are “spewing marxist ideology,” and students are being radicalized “against their own country.” His message echoes what President Trump and Stephen N. Miller have said about the “radical left” since Kirk’s killing.

“By taking back our institutions, and starting with schools, we can take back our republic,” Osborne wrote.

Education Freedom Accounts / Vouchers are NOT free! They are simply handouts for the wealthy. Support Public Education.

Due to the absence of income restrictions, it appears nearly certain that NH will reach the 10,000 available education freedom accounts, based on the applications received thus far. The program will provide at least $4,265 per child to spend on homeschooling or private education expenses; last year, 90% of the funds went toward tuition at religiously affiliated schools. The cost to NH of EFAs this year will likely be approximately $45 million, a 62% increase from last year. Families will know in two weeks if their application has been accepted. My good friend from Contoocook penned these words this morning and how powerful they are.." For those unaware or not in the know, here’s a quick update and context: In California, protests against ICE actions are escalating, and T has deployed the National Guard. As a reminder, these are legal, constitutionally protected protests that are taking place.
>
> Let's put this in perspective.
>
> The last time a President deployed the National Guard without a governor's request was 1965 – LBJ did it to protect civil rights protestors. This time a president is doing it to intimidate protestors.
>
> This is the same prez that refused to call the Guard to protect the Capitol during the J-6 attempted coup. In fact, when he returned to office, he freed those convicted traitors.
>
> For a moment, I want you to consider the massive amounts of resources we’re committing to terrorize people, versus feeding and housing them.
>
> Never tell me again that both parties are the same.
>
> Here’s the significant development here: California, the world's 4th largest economy, is refusing to comply. And Governor Newsom blasted the action and criticized it as "purposefully inflammatory" and unnecessary.
>
> This is not (just) politics. This is history.
>
> A sitting governor critical and opposing federal power marks the beginning of a profound fracture. A reckoning. A fight over meaning, over power, over who truly gets to call themselves free.
>
> This is how it starts: not with armies, but with ordinary people refusing to kneel.
>
> I don’t think many fully grasp what California represents. It's more than just beaches and tech. It's a superpower. A cultural supernova. A mythic entity currently holding half the country’s future in its jaw.
>
> So, when California says NO, it matters. It matters profoundly.
>
> If you’re feeling chills reading this, your body is recognizing the shift. The facade is cracking. The quiet roar of a state remembering it doesn't have to comply.
>
> And if you believe any of this is only about immigration enforcement, then frankly, you’re too uneducated or too far gone for productive engagement.
>
> It took him 138 days to declare war on Americans.
>
> We are in the opening chapter of something.
>
> Pay attention.

Today's topic: Education
From: NH Boston Globe Morning Report

New Hampshire still relies more heavily on local tax revenues to fund K-12 public schools than any other state, according to updated rankings released Tuesday by the National Education Association.

While about 63 percent of public school funding in New Hampshire came from local sources last school year, only about 29 percent came from the state and about 8 percent came from federal sources, according to NEA’s estimates.

That means New Hampshire once again ranked first among the 50 states in terms of reliance on local education funding and dead last in terms of the state’s relative contributions.

The state’s current education funding model leads to disparities from one community to the next, in light of differences in property values. Cities and towns with lower property values may have a harder time raising enough money to provide for an adequate education, while those that collect more money than they need via the Statewide Education Property Tax have been allowed to keep the excess for use in their local districts.

Megan Tuttle, president of NEA New Hampshire, said some state lawmakers “keep failing to adequately fund public education,” and the state’s overreliance on local property taxes means students receive differing opportunities based on their ZIP codes.

“For example, students in property poor and lower-income communities often don’t get to take AP courses or join extra curricular activities,” she said. “Differences in funding levels across the state also impact educator salaries, leading to serious recruitment and retention issues that directly harm student learning.”

Whether the current model should be replaced with a system that requires the state to contribute more funding and distribute SWEPT revenues more equally is the subject of a pair of disputes pending before the New Hampshire Supreme Court after a lower court ruled in 2023 that the status quo is unconstitutional. Lawmakers have also been weighing potential solutions.

While the state’s share of K-12 public school spending is relatively slim, the overall amount that New Hampshire schools spend per student is higher than most other states. New Hampshire ranked seventh in the US last school year, spending $22,252 per pupil, according to the NEA data. That was slightly more than Maine schools spent per pupil and a few thousands dollars less than Massachusetts schools spent per pupil.

Republican state lawmakers have advocated for caps to limit the growth of school spending at the local level. They have also proposed universal eligibility for the Education Freedom Account program, which would allow all families to take the state’s share of education funding and use it for private school or other education expenses. Democrats have advocated for their own legislative proposals to increase education funding at the state level and distribute SWEPT revenues more evenly.

A wide variety of factors, including geographic considerations, influence differences in per-pupil spending from one community or state to the next.

In terms of how much teachers get paid, New Hampshire is in the middle of the pack, according to the NEA data. With an average teacher salary of $67,170 last school year, New Hampshire ranked 24th among the states. Even so, the NEA said starting salaries for new teachers are still below $50,000 at more than three-quarters of New Hampshire school districts.
