🚒🇺🇸 Center Line Fire Academy to Participate in Tunnel to Towers 5K

On September 12, the Center Line Fire Academy will participate in the Tunnel to Towers 5K, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

📍 Event Location: Lake St. Clair Metropark
31300 Metro Parkway, Harrison Township

🕘 Event Time: 9:00 AM

Instructor McGee and Assistant Principal Grattan will be among the adult staff members participating side-by-side with our Fire Academy cadets.

This marks the third time our Fire Academy has participated in this meaningful event.

The Tunnel to Towers event honors the memory of FDNY Firefighter Stephen Gerard Siller. On September 11, 2001, Stephen had just completed his shift with Brooklyn's Squad 1 when he learned of the attacks on the World Trade Center. He immediately returned to get his firefighting gear and headed toward the Twin Towers.

When the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel was closed, Stephen continued on foot through the tunnel toward the World Trade Center, where he gave his life while helping others. His courage, commitment to service, and sacrifice became the inspiration for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

Today, the Foundation continues Stephen's legacy by supporting America's heroes and their families. Its programs provide mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children, build specially adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders, and work to combat veteran homelessness. The Foundation is also committed to ensuring that future generations Never Forget September 11, 2001.

For our Fire Academy cadets, this event is about much more than completing a 5K. It is an opportunity to honor the sacrifices of those who came before us, recognize the commitment of today's first responders and military service members, and reflect on the values of service, courage, and sacrifice.

We welcome students, families, staff, and community members who are interested in joining us for this important cause.

There truly is no greater opportunity to come together in remembrance, honor, and service.

Can't join us but would still like to support the cause? Donations can be made here:

The Fire Academy at Center Line High School is proud to recognize one of our former cadets who has gone on to make a meaningful impact in the fire service.

Meet Andrew. After graduating from our Fire Academy and earning his firefighter certification, Andrew joined the United States Air Force, where he now serves as an Airman Firefighter/EMT specializing in aircraft crash rescue.

Andrew is currently deployed, serving our country in an active war zone. As he continues his mission overseas, we ask that you keep him in your thoughts and wish him a safe return home.

Andrew represents the dedication, courage, and commitment we strive to instill in all of our cadets. Everyone at Center Line is incredibly proud of his accomplishments and grateful for his service to both our nation and the fire service.

Stay safe, Andrew—we look forward to welcoming you home

13 years ago today, 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the community of Yarnell during the Yarnell Hill Fire.

Their courage, selflessness, and commitment to serving others continue to inspire firefighters across Arizona and beyond. While the years pass, their legacy never fades.

Today, we pause to remember their lives, honor their sacrifice, and keep their families, friends, and fellow firefighters in our thoughts.

Gone, but never forgotten.

The cadets at Center Line traveled to Grand Rapids this past weekend to compete in the High School State Firefighting Competition, SKILLS USA. While we performed exceptionally well, we fell just short of bringing home awards—but gained invaluable opportunities and experiences along the way.

During the trip, cadets had the chance to visit the historic Grand Rapids Fire Department headquarters, where they were met with outstanding hospitality that truly reflects the fire service. They were welcomed by the Fire Chief and even got to meet the department’s fire dog, “Smokey.”

Following the visit, our academy—along with students from Jackson Area Career Center—was invited to tour the City of Grand Rapids’ main training center, further expanding their learning experience.

We’re grateful for the warm welcome and generosity shown by GRFD and look forward to returning next year to continue building these relationships and learning opportunities. Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to invest in the future of the fire service.

It’s been a busy and rewarding stretch for our Cadets at Center Line. We kicked off the month focused on suppression, pushing through both classroom instruction and hands-on skill development.

As we wrap things up, the momentum is strong—now shifting our focus toward graduation and the next big milestone: State certification. Proud of the work being put in every day.
