Macomb County OCE COVID-19 Update
April 22, 2020
Good afternoon,

As we look ahead at the next week, I want to gently remind everyone to please stay home and stay safe. By adhering to this guidance and following recommended safety practices, we can get through this COVID-19 crisis. I understand that this has been a challenging period, but now is the time to double down on our efforts to prevent the spread of the virus and save lives.

A very important part of preventing the spread of COVID-19 is testing. And in the last several days, COVID-19 testing has become more widely available in Macomb County. Both MyCare Health in Center Line and Rite Aid in Macomb Township recently opened up services for the public. So if you have symptoms or are concerned about exposure, I encourage you to visit macombgov.org and review our information on local testing locations and processes.

Additionally, if you or your family are experiencing food insecurity, please visit our Macomb County food resources map here. There are a variety of organizations providing support to ensure that no one goes hungry during these difficult times.

Take care everyone, and remember, let’s stay home and stay safe to save lives.

Mark A. Hackel
Macomb County Executive

If you are concerned about COVID-19 or have mild symptoms, please do not call 911 and do not visit the Macomb County Health Department to be tested for COVID-19. Please contact your health care provider. For more information, visit macombgov.org/covid19 or call the COVID-19 Helpline at 586-463-3750. The Helpline is open 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday. MyCare Healthcare Center is stepping up to address the COVID epidemic plaguing our community. They have established a “drive-up” testing facility next to their administrative offices at 6790 E. 10 Mile Road, Center Line. They are testing both their current patients, new patients and patients with a prescription from other Doctors. They are utilizing video tele-health for symptomatic patients (that do not already have a script), to assess their need for testing. First responders, health care workers, critical infrastructure workers and citizens with symptoms can be sent to MyCare for screening/testing.
They have a dedicated COVID hotline established. The number is: 586.519.9263. Nancy A. Barr

President Trump Approves Governor Whitmer’s Request for Major Disaster Declaration
Declaration Includes Support for Crisis Counseling, Emergency Protective Measures
Governor Announces Delivery of 112,800 N95 masks from Strategic National Stockpile

LANSING, Mich. -- Last night, President Trump approved Governor Whitmer’s request for a Major Disaster declaration in Michigan. The declaration means that Michigan is now eligible for participation in the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) programming to provide relief for Michiganders impacted by the COVID-19 virus and measures to slow the spread of the virus. While Michigan made a broad request for aid in every Individual Assistance and Public Assistance program from the Individual Assistance category, funding was approved for the Crisis Counseling Program and funding for Emergency Protective Measures from the Public Assistance Category was also approved.

“This is a good start, and it will help us protect Michiganders and slow the spread of COVID-19,” said Governor Whitmer. “I’m hopeful that the president will review my request for individual assistance programs that would provide meals to families who need them and rental assistance and temporary housing for families. I look forward to the federal government’s continued partnership as we work to fight this virus.”

ATTENTION RESIDENTS:

"At the Special Virtual Meeting of the Center Line City Council on March 27, 2020, the City Council did extend the City Manager's Emergency Declaration to 60 days. This means that essential city services will only be provided. We must all be vigilant in our efforts to stem the tide of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Everyone should continue to follow the protocols for keeping yourself from getting the virus. Please remember that you can only be out and about for essentials or for your job if you are a designated worker. We are in this together, so let's work together to put end to this crisis."

PRESS RELEASE from the City of Center Line

March 20, 2020

CENTER LINE, MI – CITY OF CENTER LINE HAS DECLARED A STATE OF EMERGENCY DUE TO COVID-19.

Furthering its efforts to “flatten the curve” of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading, the City of Center Line has declared a State of Emergency in the community.” The city’s Emergency Management Team has met twice to discuss the city’s response to the Coronavirus crises, and we have concluded that it is in the community’s best interest to close down city government,” Dennis Champine, the Center Line City Manager said.

According to Champine, the City of Center Line Emergency Management Team (CLEMT) consists of the Public Safety Director, a Fire Lieutenant, the Department of Public Works Superintendent, a City Councilperson, the Deputy Clerk, and himself. “We reviewed the information we have been receiving from the State and Federal governments, the confirmed cases in Center Line, and considered the impact on our employees.” There will be no services provided by any Departments except where absolutely necessary, in an effort to reduce public contact. Public Safety will maintain emergency services and enforcement. All other Departments and personnel will be placed on emergency leave through the end of next week, possibly through the end of March, 2020.

“It is our hope that by this declaration, Center Line will be made eligible to receive reimbursements from State and Federal funding, specifically for operational costs incurred during this crisis,” Champine said.

The City of Center Line’s City Council must extend the City Manager’s State of Emergency declaration beyond one week, should they choose to do so. After the Governor’s Executive Order allowing public meetings to be held virtually, the city is considering virtual public meeting opportunities to ensure that the City Council can still meet without meeting in person, and allow the public to participate live, online. “We are looking into several different virtual meeting platforms to determine which will work best for everyone involved, including our residents,” Champine stated.

While the Center Line city offices are closed, residents and businesses can contact the Public Safety at 586-757-2200 for both emergency and non-emergency issues or if they have any questions, which will be relayed to the city administration for immediate response. Residents may also contact Mr. Champine with questions.
