Representatives from Extra Credit Union visited all of Wolfe’s 6th-grade Social Studies classes to deliver their Let’s Talk Money and Intro to Budgeting presentations. Through engaging and interactive lessons, students explored important financial literacy concepts, including the role of credit unions, the benefits of savings accounts, and the importance of setting both short-term and long-term financial goals. Students also participated in a Jenga-style review game that reinforced key vocabulary and budgeting concepts in a fun and collaborative way. In addition, Extra Credit Union shared information about youth banking opportunities, including how students can open an account and programs that reward strong academic performance. This experience provided students with real-world financial literacy skills while helping them better understand responsible money management and future financial planning.

Ten students from Ms. Gelle’s Academy Explorer 7 class recently completed the culminating experience of their capstone project at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law’s Moot Court as the final stage of a multi-part experience that immersed students in the field of law and justice. Students were presented with a mock Supreme Court case centered on the question, “Does a public school have the right to stop or punish a student for writing about school issues online at home, or does the First Amendment protect that student’s speech and press rights?” Ten student finalists were selected to present their arguments in the University of Detroit Mercy’s Moot Court before the Dean and current law students.

CLHS Academy Coach Christine Lovell visited the Academy Explorer 8 class to support students as they develop their capstone portfolios. Ms. Lovell began by sharing her professional background including her previous roles before discussing her current position as Academy Coach and the ways she supports students in preparing for future success. Capstone portfolios include creating professional resumes for future academic and career opportunities as well as developing individualized high school plans. Students had the opportunity to ask questions about their portfolios, explore the wide range of opportunities available at CLHS, and gain insight into programs that align with their interests and goals.

Ms. Lovell provided valuable information about the school’s 9-12 academic pathways including Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, SMTEC opportunities, and the guaranteed experiences students can expect throughout high school. She also worked one-on-one with students, offering personalized feedback and guidance to strengthen their portfolios and future planning. This experience helped students make meaningful connections between their current learning and future academic and career pathways. Students will later present their capstone portfolios to further develop their communication and professional skills.

Wolfe's Green Team has been hard at work all year. This culminated with Earth Day on April 22. We posted our Clean Energy and Earth Day display, made Wildflower Seed Bombs and gave them to the staff to plant, cleaned up after school, and are looking forward to our free trip to the Detroit Zoo for becoming an Official Green School.
