The Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corpororation filed incorporation papers in December 1929. Grumman opened for business on January 2, 1930 in a rented garage on the south shore of Long Island, in the town of Baldwin, New York. The company, named after Leroy Grumman, went on to become an American icon of aviation engineering and a part of the rich aviation history on Log Island best known for landing man on the moon with the Lunar Excursion Module and the feared F-14 Tomcat fighter aircraft.

Another aviation icon, Jack Northrop founded the Northtop corporation in 1939. Jack’s vision of the “Fling Wing” has become reality in the current day B-2 Stealth bomber.

In 1994, Northrop Corporation and the Grumman Corporation formed the the Northrop Grumman Corporation.
