Just a reminder that tomorrow at 10 a.m. Mr. Bobby Harris from Alabama Institute For Deaf And Blind will be here doing hearing test and hula class will be canceled tomorrow but we will have Ms. Nicola here from 9 to 10 doing arts and craft. If you are interested in anything that we're doing please come out and join us ... I give you my word you will have a wonderful time.

The 2016 annual National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, August 2 at the Center Point Courthouse Annex. The event lasts from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Free food, drinks, entertainment, etc. Come out and support the community. This event is sponsored by:

The history of Erwin High School

Eugene Brown Erwin High School was originally constructed in 1957 as a junior high school. Named for a former superintendent, the school opened serving 240 students in grades 7-9. The community built playing fields in 1961. In 1964 it expanded into a high school for grades 7-12 and the new Erwin Elementary was built. This photograph is from the 1968 Aquila, the Erwin yearbook.

Center Point Senior Center offers varies opportunities for the seniors in the community.We also promote awareness on health,nutrition and activities.

Come out and support Erwin Middle Football Team Saturday July 18 from 7am-9am


The Annual Kids Fishing Rodeo is this Saturday at Reed-Harvey Park. It is open to kids ages 4-12. Each participant should bring their own poles, bait, chairs, stringers, etc.
Registration begins at 8:30 am and fishing will begin at 9 am.
Over 500 lbs of farm raised catfish will be hungry and ready to be caught!!!

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs Melba Gray's family and friends. She will be dearly missed

It is with deep sadness that we report long time Center Point business owner and Chamber of Commerce board member, Melba J. Gray passed away after a short illness on Tuesday. She is survived by sons Mike (Tooter/Maddie) and Mark (DeDe) along with four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be held at Huffman United Methodist Church on Friday (June 5) from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services are also at Huffman United Methodist Church on Saturday (June 6) at 10:00 a.m. with burial following at Jefferson Memorial in Trussville. The Chamber sends our condolences to her family. She was a wonderful lady who took community involvement seriously and she will be deeply missed.

Three years ago an EF-3 tornado hit Center Point.
Even though the scars can still be seen and felt, our city has really come a long ways in cleaning up and getting back to a new normal.



Don't forget to come out to the Center Point Satellite Courthouse tonight for the 2014 National Night Out. Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, Center Point Fire District, a helicopter, bomb robot, and free hot dogs and drinks! Come out and celebrate a national night of safety. The fun starts at 7pm. 2014 Football/Cheerleading Registration is going on now!!! You can register at Center Point City Hall, from 8am to 5pm. City Hall is located at 2209 Center Point Parkway, Center Point, Al. 35215. You can also register at Center Point Parks & Recreation, 1000 Chalkville School Road, Center Point, Alabama 35215. We will have Walk-Up Registration on Saturday, July 19, 2014 @ 9am at Hibbett Sports, located at 2304 Center Point Parkway, Center Point, Al. 35215. Memorial Day will be celebrated Monday, May 26, 2014. The City of Center Point will have a wreath laying ceremony in honor of United States soldiers on Memorial Day, May 26, 2014 @ 11:00 am. For information on purchasing a Veteran's Memorial stone, call 205-854-4460.

The City of Center Point would like to thank Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell for speaking at our Town Hall Meeting held on Monday, February 17, 2014 at City Hall. Representative Oliver Robinson, and Commissioner George Bowman were also in attendance. Congresswoman Sewell spoke about several topics that affect the citizens of Center Point. Some of the topics discussed were: the Affordable Care Act, the amendment of the Voting Rights Act, 2014 Farm Bill, and the Omnibus Funding Bill. Congresswoman Sewell also provided information regarding Project READY (Realizing Everyone's Ability to Develop Yourself), which is a workforce readiness program geared toward providing the skills and training needed to enter the workforce. She also provided information on grant writing and how to bring funding into the City from Washington. Congresswoman Sewell's office is available for any questions regarding the topics discussed and she extended her assistance in helping move Center Point forward. She also stressed to the audience the importance of becoming more civically involved in our community. Congresswoman Sewell answered many questions regarding the future of CPI, US Postal Service, the TPP Agreement (Trans Pacific Partnership), and the status of the country's debt. Here's a recap of all the Warnings/Advisories that are currently in effect for the impending arctic blast and wintry precip:

1) Hard Freeze Warning: From midnight Sunday night - Noon Tuesday for ALL of Central Alabama. Temps will drop into the single digits to 20s Sun night, and then single digits and teens Mon night. Daytime temps will remain below freezing Mon.

2) Wind Chill Advisory: From midnight Sunday night - 6pm Monday for the northern half of Central Alabama. Wind chill values of 0 to -10 degrees.

3) Wind Advisory: From 6pm Sunday - 6pm Monday for ALL of Central Alabama. NW winds sustained around 15-25 mph with gusts as high as 40 mph.

In reference to the traffic cameras in Center point. THEY ALL SHOULD BE BANNED.

“While proponents of red light cameras claim that their presence leads to an increase in safety by decreasing the number of angle accidents [or side-impact collisions], data show that they may lead to an overall increase in other types of accidents such as rear-ending due to sharp braking,” he said.

Wow its sad the Mayor and the City Council needs to get their heads out of their butts and start a police department. How many more shootings and robberies is it going to take before they start caring about the safety of citizens and visitors.
