Important tips on using a generator

Suffolk County continues to experience impacts from this coastal storm.

Heavy rain, strong winds, and coastal flooding will continue today and into Sunday. Additional flooding in coastal and low-lying areas is expected, and downed trees and power lines remain possible.

Residents are urged to stay off the roads when possible and allow emergency crews to work safely.

🏠 If you lose power and need to use a generator, always keep it outdoors and away from your home, windows, doors, and garages.

⚠️ The exhaust must be directed away from the building.

🔥Turn off generators and let them cool down before refueling. Never refuel a generator while it is hot.
