Fort Boggy State Park - Texas Parks and Wildlife

Fort Boggy State Park - Texas Parks and Wildlife In early 1840, the John Byrns and Christopher C. Stanley families established the first settlement near Boggy Creek.

The settlers built Fort Boggy, a palisade fort, to protect them from frontier raids and food shortages.

Do you ever feel uplifted by nature?
During a morning walk along the lake, right as the sun was pulling everything into its molten grip, these beautiful flowers were peeking out!
Purple Bindweed (Wild Morning Glory) can thrive in hot, dry conditions, creeps its way across vast areas, and blooms when other flowers don't make it.

So, the next time you're having a long day, the heat is wearing you down, or you need a pick me up, take a moment to look at the finer details in the natural world around you. You might be surprised by what can thrive even under the toughest conditions. 😉🌱

This week’s staff meeting took us deep into the heart of the park!
We explored areas rich with history—long before this land was donated as a state park. Along the way, we spotted sections that may align with the historic El Camino Real de los Tejas trail and even came across more recent pieces of history like old glass and ceramics.
Discovering these artifacts is always exciting, but a quick reminder:
• If you see something, please don’t pick it up.
• Note the exact location and let staff know what you found.
• Never collect items from a state park—these pieces help tell the story of the land and belong where they are.
We love celebrating the history beneath our feet, and with everyone’s help, we can keep protecting it for future visitors and researchers. 🌳

We’re excited to celebrate two outstanding FY25 STARS in our park!
A huge congratulations to Heather, our Community Engagement winner, whose work as an interpreter (during 2025, now Office Manager) helped strengthen the bond between our visitors and the park. Her passion for sharing the park’s stories and connecting people to this special place truly made a difference.
And a big round of applause for Barry, our Maintenance & Operations winner. His dedication, craftsmanship, and top‑notch fabrication skills keep our park running smoothly and help create the experience our visitors enjoy every day.
Thank you, Heather and Barry, for your incredible commitment to serving our park and community! 🌿✨
