The Tennessee Historical Commission and Tennessee Historical Society are pleased to announce that the Tennessee History Book Award for 2025 will be presented to co-authors Mary Ellen Pethel and Don Cusic for their book "Howdy! The Minnie Pearl Story", published by the University of Tennessee Press.

Additional information about the award and nomination forms can be found on the Tennessee Historical Society website. Nominations for the 2026 Tennessee History Book Award will be accepted in November 2026. https://tennesseehistory.org/home/book-award/

Looking through some old papers and found an interesting tidbit. In 1903, the county court voted to levy a fine of $2.50 against every person hitching a horse to the fence around the courthouse. Sheriff Con Yates was notified to place notices on the fence. I guess these were the first parking tickets issued in Centerville! At that time, $2.50 was a lot of money, it seems to me.
