Ann-Marie Small, Speech-Language Pathologist at Driscoll Elementary, is helping staff learn more about augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) through her ongoing “AAC Quick Hits” sessions.

Each 20-minute session focuses on a different topic. The first one this year covered the initial Golden Rules of AAC and was a great introduction for staff new to AAC or a helpful review for those with more experience.

And, since learning is more fun with snacks, she brings those too, since the sessions are after school!

We love seeing our staff share their expertise and learn from one another to empower and support every learner. 🖤💛

Good luck, Spirit Chain! 🖤💛 We’re proud of our students for giving back, making an impact and bringing the Elk spirit! EPND!🦌

Good luck Centerville High School Spirit Chain! We were excited to have four outstanding and enthusiastic Spirit Chain members visit us at our Tuesday lunch meeting this week as they collected funds to benefit five local charities and hope to claim ultimate bragging rights as 2026 Spirit Chain Champions over their cross town rivals at Kettering Fairmont. We are always happy to support our local youth, but while we are excited these funds will go to some great causes, we are even more thrilled of what a beautiful example this visit was of youth making an impact right in our Community! Good luck to everyone on September 11th!

Mrs. Bowser’s sixth grade ELA students at Watts chose one word for the year and wrote them outside to share with others.

We love seeing what our Elks are setting their sights on this year!

Middle School Chess Club at Watts is off to an amazing start!

The first meeting brought together 64 students playing chess at the same time, and it was so cool to see! Eighth graders started by helping sixth graders learn the game, and then the boards were open for all.

There was so much excitement and conversation around the room, and when it was time to wrap up, students definitely wanted to keep playing! We’d say that’s a pretty great first meeting. ♟️

A huge thank-you to Heather Schnier, Sara Whitman, Tricia Beecroft and Sarah Speltz for helping make it all happen!

🧠 Interested in Destination Imagination?

There’s still time to attend a “Try DI!” session and learn more about this STEAM-based extracurricular program.

Destination Imagination gives students opportunities to work together, solve problems creatively and develop skills that extend beyond the classroom.

Centerville students have participated in Odyssey of the Mind and Destination Imagination for more than 43 years, with multiple Centerville teams earning Top 10 finishes at the global competition each year.

The program also offers opportunities specifically designed for students with special needs.
