Culinary Specialist Riko Skinner, from Baltimore, Maryland, transfers grilled chicken to a tray aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75).

The Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group is on a scheduled deployment in the U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. Sixth Fleet area of operations in support of U.S., allied and partner interests in Europe and Africa.

The Navy’s Nuclear Field (NF) program offers extensive training as nuclear propulsion plant operators and technicians to young men and women with aptitude in mathematics and science. The standards for selection for enlistment in the Navy’s NF program are high. People applying for NF training must be dedicated to pursuing the challenge this highly technical field offers. Applicants should be mature, responsible, and capable of working well under pressure.

Work as either an electrical, mechanical, electronic, or radiological nuclear-qualified operator aboard a US Navy Aircraft Carrier or Submarine (optional). Work alongside the top 5% of the United States sailors as you create electrical power, potable water, and steam used throughout the ship. Along with the Navy’s benefits, the Nuclear Program also offers you a $38K enlistment bonus and automatic E-3 paygrade upon enlistment as well as up to a $100K reenlistment bonus and automatic E-5 paygrade once you have completed at least 2 years if you opt to reenlist.

Machinist's Mates (MM) operate, maintain, and repair (organizational and intermediate level) ship propulsion machinery, auxiliary equipment, and outside machinery, such as: steering engine, hoisting machinery, food preparation equipment, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, windlasses, elevators, and laundry equipment; operate and maintain (organizational and intermediate level) marine boilers, pumps, forced draft blowers, and heat exchangers; perform tests, transfers, and inventory of lubricating oils, fuels, and water; maintain records and reports; and generate and stow industrial gases.
