Our team gathered this week with community leaders, partners, and advocates to recognize the 25 children in our community who have been served by Scotty’s House from Leon County at our annual Child Abuse Awareness & Prevention Month Ceremony. Each name shared during this ceremony represents a child, a story, and a path toward healing.

In 2025, Scotty’s House served 1,019 children across the Brazos Valley, which is made possible through the support of our partners and the strength of the communities we serve.

Together, we remain committed to protecting children, supporting families, and bringing hope to those who need it most. Join us throughout April as we continue to raise awareness!

💙Scotty’s House: Brazos Valley’s Child Advocacy Center provides compassionate forensic interviews, medical exams, counseling, family advocacy & community education to ensure safety, healing & justice for children victimized by abuse.

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple reports from citizens who have received calls appearing to come from our non-emergency phone number, with the caller disconnecting shortly after.

Please be advised that our office is not placing these calls. This activity is consistent with a phone “spoofing” scam, in which callers disguise their number to appear legitimate.

We encourage the public to remain vigilant. Do not provide personal or financial information over the phone unless you are certain of the caller’s identity. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately.

Today, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office had the honor of attending the annual Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Ceremony hosted by Scotty’s House. This meaningful event recognized and brought awareness to the 25 confirmed child abuse cases in Leon County.

Each number represents a child—someone who deserves safety, protection, and a voice. Events like this remind us of the importance of standing together as a community to protect our most vulnerable.

We remain committed to working alongside our partners, advocating for victims, and ensuring those responsible are held fully accountable. Together, we can make a difference through awareness, education, and action.

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office wants to make the public aware of several ongoing scams affecting our community. Scammers are becoming more convincing and aggressive in their tactics, and we want you to stay informed.

We have received reports of individuals calling residents and claiming to be law enforcement officers, stating that you have an active warrant for your arrest. The caller then demands immediate payment—often through gift cards, wire transfers, or other non-traceable methods—to “resolve” the warrant. This is a scam. Law enforcement will never call and request payment over the phone to avoid arrest.

Additionally, there have been reports of scammers posing as banks or financial institutions. These callers may claim there is suspicious activity on your account and ask for your credit card number, PIN, or other sensitive information. Legitimate banks will not ask for this information over the phone in this manner.

⚠️ Remember the following tips to protect yourself:
• Never send money or provide payment over the phone to unknown callers
• Do not give out personal or financial information unless you initiated the contact and trust the source
• Be cautious of urgent or threatening language meant to pressure you into acting quickly
• Hang up and contact the agency or bank directly using a verified phone number

If you receive a suspicious call, do not engage—hang up immediately. If you believe you have been targeted or fallen victim to a scam, please report it.

Your safety—both physical and financial—is our priority. Stay alert, stay informed, and help us spread the word to protect others in our community.
