FY2027 Cover Crop Incentives Now Available!

Iowa farmers can now apply for state-funded cost-share to support the use of cover crops—one of the most effective practices for improving soil health and protecting water quality.

Incentive Rates for Cover Crops: • $30/acre for producers who have never used cover crops before (up to 160 acres)
• $20/acre for producers who have used cover crops in the past or participated in previous WQI Statewide funding (up to 160 acres)

Program Notes: • First-time users receive top funding priority.
• Past cover crop users remain eligible at the reduced incentive rate.
• Funding approval depends on available funds and the practice’s ability to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus loss.

A local REAP meeting will be held in Chariton on June 15, 2026, at the Pin Oak Marsh Nature Center, of residents of Lucas, Wayne, Appanoose, and Monroe Counties. The Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) program has funded nearly $430 million in projects for conservation projects across Iowa since 1989.

“Every two years, Iowans gather for regional assemblies to direct the future of our state’s natural and cultural resources. This year we are reimagining the assembly by putting local voices and proven projects that have transformed our communities and improved quality of life at the center of the conversation. This is your chance to learn about REAP, connect with like-minded citizens who are interested in natural and cultural resource work, and voice how REAP can better serve your community and your region”.
