KDFW Biologist will be there to discuss bobcats and the new regulations changes.
Our stance: This change is unfounded, one sided, not scientifically backed, backed by those who would directly benefit from these changes such as hunters and trappers.
There has never been a Bobcat population studies ever conducted in the state of Kentucky. Instead of true field study and pupolation documentaion the Department of Fish and Wildlife relies on Hunters and trappers to telecheck each Bobcat killed during hunting seasons. They also rely on teeth/jaw bone collections which is also an unreliable form of study as it has extremely low participation and turn in rates.
They also have based their decision on the opinions of hunters and trappers not scientific based field studies. They have also used a baseline ESTIMATE that is spread throughout multiple states not one specific state.
Law makers such as Sen. Julie Raque Adams, R-Louisville are voicing their problems with the lack of field studies to support this drastic of a bag limit change and the addition of night hunting with thermal cameras.
Todd Blevins with Humane World for Animals has also been very vocal against this decision and has rallied alongside us rehabbers to be the voice for bobcats who have no voice.
