Yesterday, Vice President and Discipline Director Robert Bee, R.A., LEED AP, and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Joseph Mottola, AIA, presented two national awards to the Central Islip Fire Department in recognition of the newly designed Station 3. The project received a 2025 Firehouse Station Design Silver Award and a 2025 F.I.E.R.O. Station Design Merit Award.
To meet the demands of a growing population and expanding service area, Central Islip Fire Department embarked on a mission approximately 20 years ago to enhance emergency response capabilities through the development of a new substation.
H2M worked closely with the Department and Town of Islip to develop the new design, which includes an innovative, three-bay substation totaling just over 11,000 square feet. It also features two drive-through bays and a mezzanine level that supports utility systems and advanced training capabilities.
The substation stands as a model of thoughtful design, technical innovation, and community collaboration to deliver a facility that meets the Department’s operational needs while enhancing public safety for years to come.
