A wish for for my friends who celebrate and for those who do not.

The story of Hanukkah is the embodiment of resiliency. Oil, that was found in the aftermath of a failed attempt to wipe out the jews, defied all odds and burned for 8 days rather than the predicted one.

Much like an oil and the wick, a candle may wax and wane in its glow. It can also provide more heat and yet become dark that much quicker. My wish is that although that the candle might flicker, may you never stop providing the warmth in the times of coldness and the light in the wake of darkness.

Happy Hannukah!!

‘Your purpose in life … is simply this: to improve the world’ - We couldn't agree more!

When Peter Salovey, a professor of psychology, became president of Yale University in 2013, the school paper quickly noted that he was a scion of the Soloveitchik family, the great Orthodox rabbinic dynasty that has shaped Europe, America and Israel. Since assuming office, Salovey has embraced his h…

Do something kind for someone else today...just because. Lets help one another

What would you do if you saw a single mother struggling to buy food for her kids? Would you help her? Would you do nothing? In this interesting clip, one TV show wanted to find out how people would react to a young mother who didn’t have enough money to make her purchases. Would people... View Artic…

Update from Program LIVES week 2:
All participants returned back for week 2. We are currently working on the "I" in Program LIVES, and that is Involvement. The kids have decided for their first project they would like to make a short documentary to share their stories. So after a quick ice breaker called "would you rather" (which stirred up some laughs) we had pizza while brainstorming ideas for their film. The kids will be sharing the film with the community once it is complete. The goals of the project are to "inspire others to share their stories, regardless of whether it is good or bad, for the purpose of helping others and to knock down stereotypes people have about children in foster care". They want people to know being in foster care doesn't necessarily mean you are troubled, damaged, or unwanted. Each of the teens are working on developing what role they will take on in the film (ie narrator, editor, director, design). This is an ambitious first project, but OUR goal is to show the kids they can accomplish anything they put their minds to. A few of the teens in the group seem to view themselves as "Lone Rangers"; this project is helping them to work as a team, developing vital social skills, and creating a sense of belonging and community. We are open to suggestions from any amateur film makers out there. If anyone with experience in film making and/or storytelling would like to be a guest speaker, please contact us.

We are excited to announce that tonight we will be starting Program LIVES! We have partnered with Hope for Youth to bring our services to their Foster care unit. On a weekly basis we will be meeting with 5 adolescents in the Foster care program to provide them with vital life skills training, supportive counseling, and a sense of belonging. Judge Marlene Budd will be coming to speak with the group to remind them that anything is possible, even when circumstances make us think otherwise. Thank you to all who have supported this project and we will be keeping you posted on our progress.
