⚠️ WATER QUALITY ADVISORY ⚠️

Water quality testing conducted on May 29 at the Ashland Creek swim area near the Lithia Park Playground found elevated levels of E. coli bacteria, making the area unsafe for swimming and water contact at this time.

For your safety, please avoid swimming, wading, or other water contact in this area until further notice. Signs have been posted at the site.

The Swim Reservoir at the top of Lithia Park was also tested and is safe for swimming at this time.

Water quality testing is conducted every Friday from May 24 through September 25. We will provide updates when the creek is safe for swimming again.

Did you know? In Oregon, winter snowpack acts like a natural reservoir, slowly releasing water into streams, rivers, farms, and groundwater systems as temperatures warm. When snowpack is low, summer water supplies can feel the impact. This is a good reminder to start preparing now by using water wisely before peak summer demand.

Here’s the latest May 14 update from Drought.gov on current snow drought conditions in Oregon and across the West.

It’s National Drinking Water Week — a good reminder that clean water starts long before it reaches the tap.

Here in Jackson County, the Rogue River is one of our most important natural resources. It supports drinking water, farms and ranches, fish and wildlife, recreation, and the communities that call this place home.

Healthy rivers depend on healthy lands around them. Streamside vegetation helps filter runoff, reduce erosion, shade waterways, and protect the water quality we all share.

When we care for the Rogue River, we’re caring for Jackson County’s future. Thanks to Rogue River Watershed Council for sharing the value of our rivers.

Snowpack is lower than normal this year—something we’re watching closely across our region. It’s a good reminder that how we use and protect water now matters later in the season.

Thanks to our partners at the Rogue River Watershed Council for highlighting this during National Drinking Water Week.

Soil does more than grow plants—it stores water, filters runoff, and supports life below the surface.

🌱 This National Association of Conservation Districts Stewardship Week, we’re highlighting why soil health matters in Jackson County, Oregon.

💧 Healthy soil = better water retention, less erosion, and stronger drought resilience.

Agricultural conservation practices like planting cover crops and reducing soil disturbance help keep soil in place, prevent erosion, increase farm productivity and profitability, and protect nearby habitats. 🌾🚜🧑‍🌾

Conservation districts like us at Jackson Soil & Water Conservation District work with local farmers and producers to implement soil health practices on their lands!

Want help improving your soil? We can help.
