The Chief and members of Caughdenoy VFD, Inc. are proud to announce that Lt. Leon Millett has successfully passed his Airman Knowledge Test and has officially received his FAA license, allowing him to operate our department’s Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) drone.

This accomplishment is an important step forward for our department and our mission to better serve and protect our community. The use of drone technology enhances our emergency response capabilities by assisting with scene size-up, search operations, hazardous conditions, and providing critical aerial views that improve both firefighter and public safety.

Congratulations, Lt. Millett, on this outstanding achievement and thank you for your continued dedication to the department and the community we proudly serve!

The members of the Caughdenoy Volunteer Fire Department would like to honor and remember the life of deceased Life member Kathy Waldby. Kathy joined our ranks in 1987 and was an active member for 26 years until her retirement in 2013. Kathy was an EMT, interior firefighter and served as Board of Director. Kathy was a loving mother of two daughters, Kaylee and Kristen and devoted wife to Life Member and Board of Director Keith Waldby. Sadly on this day, May 6th, 2014, Firefighter Kathy Waldby answered her final alarm after a long battle with cancer and was called home to serve the eternal Chief. May she forever rest in peace. 🙏🏻 🇺🇸

🔥 Outdoor Fire 🔥

This afternoon, around 1:30pm, our department was activated for a reported quick moving brush fire behind a residence on County Route 10. Rescue Pumper 621 (Lt. Francis and 2nd Asst. Chief Eiffe), while already out in the district training, called responding immediately following shortly by 601 (Chief Centner).

Upon arrival, crews found an approximately 20x40 area of dried leaves on fire extending to some brush/branches in the area. Crews quickly got water on the fire and prevented any further extension to the nearby area. Rescue 663 (Captain Indick, and FF Landers) responded as well to assist with overall operations.

Due to the lack of hydrants in the area, command requested an engine from Phoenix Enterprise Fire Company #1 bringing additional manpower and water to the scene. All said and done crews operated onscene for nearly 1 hour, utilizing nearly 2000 gallons of water to put the fire out.

As a reminder, the NYS burn ban is still in effect until May 15th. Even with the large amounts of rain we have had in the area, conditions remain very dry and outdoor fires can still spread extremely quickly.
