The more people with Asperger’s Syndrome and Autism move into the labor market, the less valuable the Neurodiversity Movement is.

Neurodiversity Movement, was born out of a childish disregard for the realities of pretty much anything productive in the real world. It's hyperidealized, and undermines the health and happiness of any of its community....

Especially because it's denies us necessary language in legal and employment landscapes.

It is fine when all you need is an IEP and a k-12 teacher.

You get to Academia, Employment, and Law...

And Neurodiversity is a frolicking unicorn that misses the boat and drowns.

It's a very fascinating connection.

Wish you all best.

Today, March 1st is Disability Day of Mourning. We take this time to remember the disabled people who have been murdered by their parents or caregivers. Too often their lives are seen as the tragedy, not their deaths.

Disabled people are looked upon, not as human, but as burdens, and leeches on society. But we ARE human, and we deserve the right to live with dignity and respect as much as anyone else. Those murdered didn't deserve to die. What was their crime? Being an inconvenience?

One thing that needs to be addressed is the lack of support given to disabled people, including their caregivers. While not justified, some of these murders were committed by those who had been pushed to their breaking point, without any help of any kind. More and more, government support is being stripped away, if it was even there to begin with. We need to hold politicians accountable for how little they care about us. You may not like me bringing politics into this, but being disabled is political. How many of us are on disability? How many of us rely on government supports?

We need to fight. We need to speak up. Make our voices heard over the swaths of non-disabled voices that speak over us. But for today, let us be silent, just for a moment, to mourn those we've lost.

People often ask me why I don’t ā€œjust put Charlie in an institution.ā€
Like it’s as simple as dropping off a dry-cleaning order…

Here’s the part most parents never say out loud, but I will: I’ve thought about it.

When Charlie’s pica was at its worst, when he was putting non-edible objects in his mouth every 90 seconds…When he was screaming several times a minute and hitting his siblings…When I lived in a constant loop of What’s next? What’s dangerous? What’s breakable? Yeah. I thought about it. I researched. I looked…

Because that season of our life was just about survival. Most places don’t take kids under eighteen anyway.

And then this past year?
Things shifted. Not into anything the average family would recognize as ā€œbetter.ā€ But better for us.
Better in a way that only 0.001% of people could ever understand.
Better in a way where the baseline moves, not because life gets easy, but because you adapt to the version of hard you can manage without breaking.

We have good days now.
We didn’t used to.

So when people ask why I don’t ā€œjust send him away,ā€ I wish they understood this:
There is no ā€œjust.ā€
There is no easy choice.
Institutions aren’t some magical solution. They’re a last resort, a heartbreaking one.

Parents like me think about it because we have to.
We keep our kids home because we can. For now.

This is the reality for families like mine.
I think about it. Often. But for now, it works at home.

Digging the people who think... why don't you just let their caregivers handle it, it's none of your business and your obviously out of line..

Ghee thanks..

I'm glad you had the privilege to have extra caregiver support and help...

Some of us don't have that privilege and ARE the primary caregivers..

Happy Thanksgiving.
