🚨 PUBLIC NOTICE – COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY ALERT 🚨

The Centralia Police Department has received reports of counterfeit $20 bills being passed at local businesses.

One of the bills recovered is clearly marked “MOVIE PROP USE ONLY” on the front and back. While this wording is visible upon closer inspection, it can easily be missed during busy transactions.

It is important to know that this may not be the only type of counterfeit bill in circulation. We are asking businesses and residents to be alert for any suspicious currency.

🔎 Things to watch for when checking bills:

• Wording such as “For Motion Picture Use Only” or “Movie Prop”
• Poor paper quality (real currency has a distinct cotton/linen feel)
• Lack of a security thread (hold the bill up to the light)
• No color-shifting ink on the number in the lower right corner
• Blurry printing or misaligned borders
• Duplicate serial numbers on multiple bills
• Incorrect watermarks or no watermark at all

So please take a moment to check larger bills carefully.

If you receive suspected counterfeit currency:
• Do not return it to the individual
• Avoid escalating the situation
• Attempt to obtain a description if safe to do so
• Contact Centralia PD immediately

If you have received one of these bills or have information related to counterfeit currency, please contact the Centralia Police Department at 311 or 573-682-2131.

✨ SHOP WITH A HERO – 2025 ✨

On December 16, Officer Dietzel proudly represented the Centralia Police Department at the annual Shop with a HERO event at the Broadway Walmart in Columbia.

This heart-warming tradition brings local first responders together with children from families in need for a night of holiday shopping, encouragement, and joy. Police officers, firefighters, EMTs, 911 dispatchers, and other HERO partners walk alongside the kids to help make the season a little brighter. 🎁🎄

🎉 Honoring Code Enforcement/Animal Control Officer Sandy Buck 🎉

After nearly 39 years of dedicated service, Code Enforcement/Animal Control Officer Sandy Buck will be retiring from the City of Centralia on December 23, 2025.

Sandy began her career with the City on June 16, 1987, under Chief Bud Yoder, and has proudly served under eight different Police Chiefs, concluding her career under Chief Harlan Hatton. Her professionalism, dedication, and compassion have made her an invaluable part of the Centralia Police Department and the community she’s served for almost four decades.

Sandy’s hard work and commitment have not gone unnoticed. She was recognized by the City of Centralia as Citizen of the Year on May 9, 2019, a true reflection of her heart for the people and animals in our community. Whether she was addressing city code concerns, assisting with animal control, or lending a helping hand wherever it was needed, Sandy has always gone above and beyond to make Centralia a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming place to live.

Please join us in thanking Officer Sandy Buck for her 39 years of outstanding service to the City of Centralia. We wish her all the best as she begins her well-deserved retirement! 💙🐾
