Food trucks, live music, carnival games, patriotic performances, and fun for the whole family await at Estes Field from 4:00–8:00 PM!

Don’t miss the Patriotic Program beginning at 5:30 PM featuring a student-led reading of the Declaration of Independence, recognition of veterans, and patriotic music by our Community Choir.

✨ Centre City Council Highlights ✨

🏊 Approved a budgeted donation to the Centre Rotary Club’s “So Cool” Summer Program and approved allowing participants to enjoy the City Swimming Pool this summer during the program.

💧 Approved moving forward with a CDBG grant application and approved working with Goodwyn Mills Cawood engineering firm to address drainage concerns near Appleton Street.

🚒 Fire Department approvals included:
• 5 new AEDs for recreation facilities and new City Hall
• New fire hoses
• Annual fire hose safety testing contract
• New ordinance establishing a Lifetime Membership Program for City firefighters

❤️ Approved an agreement with Paige Blankenship, certified CPR instructor through the American Heart Association, to provide CPR instructor training for 2 firefighters over a 4-year period so they can become certified CPR trainers.

👮 Police Department approvals included:
• Purchases to restock ammunition
• New GPS tracking units for police vehicles

🏛️ Reappointed Jeff Chester and Joan Richardson to the Zoning Adjustment Board for another 3-year term.

🏈 Approved the agreement between the City of Centre and the Cherokee County Youth Football League for the Youth Football Program.

Mayor Jay Howell had the honor of reading a proclamation from Gov. Kay Ivey today at the Cherokee County Health & Rep Center declaring May 10th-16th, 2026 National Skilled Nursing Care Week.

Centre’s America250AL Celebration is happening May 15 at Estes Field on Main Street, and it’s going to be an evening full of patriotism, music, food, and family fun!

🎶 Live music by Ben Perry begins at 4:30 PM and continues after the Patriotic Program!

⭐ Patriotic Program begins at 5:30 PM featuring:
📜 Centre Elementary students reading the Declaration of Independence
🇺🇸 Veterans sharing what serving our country means to them
👏 Honoring veterans in attendance
🎵 Patriotic music from the Community Choir

And don’t forget all the fun throughout the evening with:

Today, Mayor Jay Howell had the opportunity to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Challenger Learning Center of Northeast Alabama in Rainbow City. What an exciting investment in the future of education, innovation, and workforce development for our region!

The Challenger Learning Center will provide students with hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, inspiring the next generation of leaders, problem-solvers, and explorers.

Congratulations to everyone who played a role in making this vision a reality. Northeast Alabama will greatly benefit from this incredible educational resource for years to come!

🇺🇸 Calling All Veterans! 🇺🇸

We would be honored to have our veterans join us for Centre’s America250AL Celebration on May 15 at Estes Field!

Veterans may park at the Cherokee County Public Library and will be transported to Estes Field by golf cart.

Guests may enjoy the celebration from the cement bleachers or bring a lawn chair for a comfortable evening of patriotic fun, music, food trucks, and family activities!
