Cherokee County 4-H 4-H is the youth development component of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.

Come celebrate National Public Lands Day at Little River Canyon National Preserve on Saturday, September 26th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Canyon Mouth Park! This event will be a fee-free day. We will have fishing instruction and education for all ages, as well as fish printing arts and crafts for those who do not want to fish. All supplies are provided, and fishing is free for youth 16 and under. Adults may fish with a valid Alabama Fishing License. Participants can also complete the Junior Angler booklet to receive a Junior Angler Ranger badge.

Something exciting is hatching! Alabama Extension is launching new Facebook and Instagram pages dedicated to all things backyard poultry.
Whether you already have a flock or are planning to start one, follow along for research-based information to help you care for healthy, productive birds.

To celebrate the launch and National Chicken Month, we’re hosting a Backyard Poultry Photo Contest! Share a photo of your favorite hen, prized rooster or entire backyard flock for a chance to win.

How to enter:
-Comment on this post with your photo.
-Follow the new Alabama Extension Backyard Poultry page.
-Like and share this post.
-Don't forget to also follow on Instagram.

Two winners will be selected:
-Judges’ Choice
-People’s Choice, awarded to the eligible photo receiving the most likes

Photos may be submitted from Sept. 1 until noon CDT on Sept. 3. Winners will be announced at 4 p.m. CDT on Sept. 3.

Cherokee County 4-H & DeKalb County 4-H are teaming up for another great year of Livestock Club! 🌱

👧🧑 Ages 9–18

Throughout the year, members will have opportunities to learn about cattle, goats, sheep, swine, animal care, and more! 🐮🐷🐑

The Great Southeast Pollinator Census takes place TODAY and TOMORROW August 21–22, and there’s still time to get ready to count!

Join us and citizen scientists across the Southeast for this fun, 15-minute activity that helps researchers learn more about the pollinators visiting our gardens, yards and communities.

Before you count:
Choose a flowering plant to observe.
Print or download your counting sheet.
Set aside 15 minutes to watch and count.
Submit your results when you’re finished.

Grab your count sheet, find your pollinator spot and get ready to put your eagle eyes to work!
