Good afternoon, Leann here with the Public Parks and Recreation Board of Cherokee County, Alabama.

This park board owns and operates Cherokee Rock Village, Cornwall Furnace, Pratt Memorial Park and Ethel Morrison park beside the library.

I apologize for any confusion, but we are in no way associated with any sports leagues, little league, baseball, soccer, etc.

We have received countless messages in this inbox about signups for various sports that we are unable to answer because we do not have this information.

Again, I apologize for any inconvenience, but if you have questions about the four county parks mentioned above, please visit our new website for Cherokee Rock Village, www.cherokeerockvillage.com and someone will get back to you about the parks we manage.

Thanks and have a great day!

At Cherokee Rock Village, we offer a variety of outdoor activities at our park in Leesburg, AL. Visit our website for more information.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our longest-serving board member, Scooter Howell.
Scooter served in this position voluntarily, putting in countless hours attending meetings, visiting the parks and community events, and always advocated for the growth and conservation of our county parks. Even when his health was failing, Scooter continued to attend board meetings remotely.

Scooter was truly a public servant who always put thought and care into protecting and preserving our parks in Cherokee County.

The Public Parks and Recreation Board of Cherokee County will not hold its second meeting of the month scheduled for Thursday, March 26, 2020 at 6pm. Meetings will be suspended until further notice, based off recommendations at the state and federal level.
At this time, our 4 parks will remain open, Cherokee Rock Village, Cornwall Furnace Veteran's Memorial Park, Ethel Morrison and Pratt Park. Please take note of the following.
1. The playground at Cherokee Rock Village is CLOSED until further notice.
2. Our staff is working diligently to maintain sanitized restroom facilities.
3. The camp store is drive-thru only. Supplies and gear may still be purchased through the drive thru window.
4. Guests are to adhere to the most recent state mandated guidelines regarding group sizes and social distancing.
5. The boulders and climbing areas CANNOT be sanitized. The climbing sport requires extremely close physical contact with these surfaces.

While parks can be a great way to get outside and alleviate some of the stress of quarantine, overcrowding in outdoor public spaces is becoming a problem nationally, with even the Great Smoky Mountains Park being closed entirely.

If we see similar problems arise at any of our parks, we will have no choice but to close the gates until further notice in the interest of public health and safety.

Your support is vital to our ability to provide services. As always, your financial contributions are appreciated, and you may continue to support our parks by purchasing yearly passes, as well as camping and climbing gear through our drive-thru window at Cherokee Rock Village.

Thank you for your understanding and patience. We will keep you updated throughout this time.

Our hats are off to Centre Scout Troop 247! These young men officially adopted Pratt Park in Centre on Saturday, June 1, 2019 and have made great progress in their plans to renovate and upkeep the park! From discovering an additional parking area by intensive brush and overgrowth clearing to cleaning the property and uncovering the cemetery buried beneath mounds of leaves, these young men are the leaders you want for the future! We are so thankful to the Scouts and their parents for guiding them to such service and greatness! They aren't afraid of hard work and dedication to a project. The Public Parks and Recreation Board of Cherokee County, Alabama is honored and humbled by their park adoption.. Please come by Pratt Park and see the incredible amount of work these guys have done and support their troop in whatever way you possibly can. They have already made such a huge impact in many other parks and areas in the community and I know we will see infinitely more great things from these young men! Thank you Boy Scout Troop 247, Randall Bubba Crabtree, Joshua Keshmiri, Delena Givens and all the other members of the troop who worked so hard Saturday.

Come on out to Cherokee Rock Village tomorrow and get in some free climbing with The Alabama Beta or pitch in on the clean-up and re-vegetation project with Randall Bubba Crabtree and Leann Hill with Boy Scout Troop 247. Admission to the park is free tomorrow!

On April 20th, The Alabama Beta is stoked to join Ascend Weekend at CRV. Wanna crush some rocks with friends? We’ll bring the gear and know how, you bring the psych. ⠀
