🐔🌱 MEET THE FLOCK! 🌱🐔

At Ceredo-Kenova Middle School, not every member of our Wonder Roots Urban Agriculture Club walks on two legs.

Introducing the feathered staff of Wonder Roots — a dedicated team of inspectors, security specialists, attendance coordinators, groundskeepers, student relations experts, and professional snack auditors.

While they may not have email addresses, they play an important role in helping our students learn responsibility, agriculture, animal care, and the value of nurturing something beyond themselves.

Over the next several posts, you'll get to meet Honey, Pearl, Mayo, Ash, Muffin, Pickles, and Burnt Fried Chicken and learn a little more about the personalities that make our flock so special.

Some scratch mulch. Some supervise. Some just demand treats.

The hardest-working staff members at CKMS don't even have email addresses.

Congratulations to Mrs. Null on being named the Wayne County Special Olympics Volunteer of the Year! Through her leadership of Tent Town, she helps create a joyful and memorable experience for athletes each year. From organizing games and prizes to preparing volunteers and making sure every athlete feels celebrated, the amount of work behind the scenes is incredible, and it never goes unnoticed.

Tent Town is always a favorite, and that’s because of the heart Mrs. Null pours into it. We are so proud of her and grateful for the love, energy, and dedication she brings to our students and community! 🏅🎉

Yesterday we celebrated the legend himself — Mr. Diamond! Thank you for the laughs, the tough love, the constant support, and for caring so deeply about CKMS students and staff. Nobody does it quite like Mr. Diamond. 💎

⚠️ COMMUNITY SAFETY & STUDENT SUPERVISION PSA ⚠️

Ceredo-Kenova Middle School has received an increasing number of concerns and complaints from community members, local businesses, and patrons regarding large groups of unsupervised students walking to the Ceredo/Kenova area after school — particularly the McDonald’s area.

Over time, concerns have included:
• Students cutting through private property/yards
• Disrespectful behavior toward community members and employees
• Trash and dining areas being left in poor condition
• Ongoing drama/conflict among students gathering after school
• Disruptive behavior impacting other patrons and businesses

Unfortunately, the situation escalated today when a significant fight occurred in the McDonald’s restroom area requiring police response. We have been informed that juvenile petitions will be filed related to the incident.

We want parents and guardians to understand the growing concerns being expressed by both community members and employees who feel overwhelmed by the large number of unsupervised juveniles gathering after school on a daily basis. McDonald’s employees are there to work and serve customers — not supervise large groups of students after school hours.

We are asking parents to please have conversations with their children regarding:
• Appropriate behavior in the community
• Respect for businesses, employees, and private property
• Proper supervision and after-school plans
• The potential consequences that can result from poor decisions and group conflicts

While we always want our students to enjoy time with friends and be active in the community, we also want to ensure they are representing themselves, their families, and CKMS in a positive manner.

We appreciate everyone’s support as we continue working together to keep our students and community safe.

At CKMS we tell students all the time that it’s okay to make mistakes. It’s okay to fail. Growth comes from recognizing it, learning from it, and doing better moving forward.

Last week during Teacher Appreciation Week, I realized I (Mr. Davis) overlooked somebody who quietly gives more to this school than almost anyone I know.

Mr. Diamond never asks for recognition. In fact, he usually avoids it. But CKMS would not be CKMS without him.

So although we know it’s Thursday night, we wanted to announce this early so students, staff, families, and our community have time to help us celebrate him properly.

By the powers invested in me by Wayne County Schools 😄 Monday, May 18th will officially be “Mr. Diamond Appreciation Day” at CKMS.

We will also have a large appreciation banner set up with Sharpies available throughout the day where students and staff can write notes, memories, jokes, thank yous, and words of encouragement for Mr. Diamond to take home with him afterward.

Nobody works harder. Nobody cares more. Nobody is better.
