KENNETT TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES
ARREST IN FATAL CRASH INVESTIGATION

KENNETT TOWNSHIP – The Kennett Township Police Department has arrested Kevin Robert Keating, 59, of Hockessin, Delaware, following an investigation into a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on January 14, 2026, in the 9100 block of Gap Newport Pike.

According to the criminal complaint, Keating was operating a 2021 Dodge Challenger when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed. His passenger, Christopher Blevins, sustained fatal injuries and died on January 16, 2026.

The investigation determined that Keating was allegedly driving significantly above the posted 45 mph speed limit. Testing indicated a blood alcohol concentration of 0.119%, as well as the presence of methamphetamine and amphetamine in his blood.

Keating has been charged with Homicide by Vehicle While DUI, Homicide by Vehicle, Accidents Involving Death or Personal Injury, multiple counts of Driving Under the Influence, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and related traffic offenses.

Keating was arrested on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the Magisterial District Court in Kennett Square. Bail was set at $500,000 unsecured. Conditions of bail include that Keating may not drive in Pennsylvania, must surrender his passport, abstain from alcohol and drugs, and report to the court monthly.

All charges are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

🌮 TACO ’Bout a Party! 🌮

On Tuesday, August 11, the Kennett Township Police Department hosted a TACO ’Bout a Party at Granite Ridge Apartments, co-hosted with members of the community. Officer Simmons, our dedicated community outreach officer, worked alongside resident volunteers to plan a wonderful celebration showcasing the spirit of community and collaboration while helping families prepare for the upcoming school year.

The evening featured:

🎒 A raffle for backpacks and school supplies (including water bottles donated by Kona)
🎶 Music from our very own DJ, Detective Juarez
🎨 Face painting and crafts
🏰 A moon bounce
🏆 Co****le contests
🚌 Kraft’s school bus
🍧 Kona Ice
🌮 Freshly made roadside tacos and an exciting taco contest celebrating our neighbors’ culinary talents

Families, friends, neighbors, and Kennett Township police officers came together for an evening filled with fun and togetherness. Neighbors also shared their favorite cultural dishes, desserts, and drinks, giving everyone a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the diverse flavors and culinary traditions within the community.

We cannot thank the Granite Ridge community enough for taking the time to participate in this event—one that we hope to build upon, grow, and continue hosting each year.

🚲 E-bikes, scooters and more—do you know the rules?

As summer winds down and we prepare for the return of school traffic, bikes and other micromobility devices will continue sharing our roads, sidewalks and neighborhoods. This summer, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) released a helpful guide explaining how Pennsylvania law applies to bicycles, e-bikes, motorized pedalcycles, motor scooters, electric scooters and other devices.

The rules—including age restrictions, licensing requirements and where each device may legally be operated—vary depending on the type of device. Some may surprise you!

Before you—or your child—head out for a ride, take a moment to review the guide and make sure you know what is legal and how to ride safely.

🚴 Pedaling 65 miles for a purpose!

On July 26, Officer Colin Vannicolo, pictured second from the right, joined law enforcement officers from departments throughout Chester County for the 39th Annual Ben to the Shore Bike Tour, completing the full 65-mile ride from Philadelphia to Atlantic City!

The annual charity ride supports the Families Behind the Badge Children’s Foundation, which provides assistance to families of fallen or critically injured first responders, promotes positive relationships between first responders and the communities they serve, and supports first-responder mental and emotional wellness.

We’re proud of Officer Vannicolo and all of the riders who took on this incredible challenge for such an important cause. Way to represent KTPD! 👏💛
