I have seen several people over the weekend posting “I stand with Ukraine“ with various other memes and pictures attached. The debate has turned into a pro Trump versus anti-Trump debate with the anti-Trumpers jumping on the Ukraine bandwagon.
While I completely support anybody’s right to stand with Ukraine (or anybody else) with their own money, let’s please not lose sight of what Zelensky was asking for. He’s already received Billions of US taxpayer dollars. He was asking for more. But that’s not all he was asking for. When he said “security guarantee“ he was asking Trump to commit US troops on the ground to fight Russian troops in Ukraine.
Let that sink in!
He was actually asking the world‘s greatest nuclear superpower to go to an active “not cold“ war with Russia. During the 45 year Cold War we never committed US troops to fight Russian troops directly. Likewise, Russia never committed Russian troops to fighting the US directly. Whether the conflict was in Korea, Vietnam, Hungary, or Afghanistan, we opposed each other through economic means, with grants of money and weapons.
While staring down a nuclear superpower that was outwardly committed to our destruction, that had promised to “bury“ the United States of America, we never committed US troops against Russian troops. Yet that’s exactly what Zelinski is asking us to do now.
Regardless of how you feel about Putin, he’s no Joseph Stalin or Nikita Khrushchev. He has not vowed to “bury” or destroy the United States of America. We are not involved in a war with Russia at the moment. But Zelensky would like for us to be.
So, when you are “standing with Ukraine,“ please keep in mind that you are actually standing for a commitment of US troops to bleed and die on Ukraine soil for the Ukraine.
I stand with President Trump!
I stand with the United States of America!
First, last and always!
