BILINGUAL INTERPRETIVE SIGNAGE DESIGNED AND FABRICATED FOR LOS ISLEÑOS MUSEUM COMPLEX

St. Bernard Parish President Guy McInnis and Office of Tourism and Film Director Katie Tommaseo have wanted to further expand the outreach of Los Isleños Museum Complex to the Spanish-speaking world and visitors to St. Bernard Parish. To further that mission, Parish Historian Bill Hyland engaged the assistance of Andrew Miloshoff, a resident of Crown Point, Indiana and recent graduate of Purdue University to design and compose seven English and Spanish language interpretive markers to be installed near each historic structure in the museum complex. The marker narratives were written using research and historic images provided by Hyland. The Spanish narratives are written in local Isleño Spanish.

“Improvements continue to be made in the area of tourism as St. Bernard Parish plans to move forward beyond the Covid-19 Pandemic in the future” said Parish President Mc Innis. Tourism and Film Director Tommaseo said “I applaud the long-term efforts of Parish Historian Hyland, Los Islenos Society and the recent support from museum complex intern Andrew Miloshoff to enhance recognition of the museum complex and the distinct heritage and cultural legacies of the Islenos.” Miloshoff received a grant from Purdue University’s Office of Engagement which paid for the design and fabrication of the markers. St. Bernard Parish Government will erect the signage.
