From the Brookings Police Department:

"News Release: The Brookings Police Department is asking the public to be aware of counterfeit bills circulating in the area.
“We have had one recent instance of counterfeit bills in Brookings, so we want residents and businesses to be vigilant when accepting paper currency,” said Chief of Police Michael Drake.
The currency in question has been $50 bills, Drake said. Each one shares the same serial numbers, has lighter blue coloring to the left of President Grant, and is textured differently from other U.S. currency.
He encourages businesses to invest in a counterfeit detector pen, which can effectively detect fake bills.
In mid-October, the Big Stone County Sheriff’s Office in Minnesota alerted businesses about reported $50 counterfeit bills being used to make purchases in the area. Big Stone County is about 90 minutes northeast of Brookings.

There is a scam call going around saying they are the Brule County Sheriff’s Office, and you missed a court date. They ask for bond money preferably a money card sent to them. We don’t do this, be aware this is a scam!
