May is recognized as Older Americans Month, and the Chambersburg, Waynesboro and Mont Alto senior activity centers recently gathered at the Mont Alto Carnival Grounds to celebrate.
The national theme for Older Americans Month in 2026 is "Champion Your Health," a way to encourage older adults to take steps to prevent health problems before they start. Nearly 100 seniors attended our celebration.
The day’s activities reflected the event theme and included socializing, games, bingo, and a craft project. In support of healthy living, nurse Shelly Sollenberger provided blood pressure checks for attendees. Guest speakers Jason Nunnelee, Community and Marketing Director for Chambersburg Skilled Nursing, and Leslie Punt, owner of Center of Balance, shared valuable information on ways participants could improve and maintain their health with presentations on brain health, lymphatic drainage, and reflexology. Each attendee received a bagged lunch to enjoy during the event.
At the end of the day, several lucky seniors received gift baskets through a prize drawing. We would like to thank the following community supporters for their generous donations: Jason Nunnelee, Chambersburg Skilled Nursing and Rehab, Franklin Hospice, BrightStar Home Care, Grane Hospice, William Grove Library
and Journey Hospice.
