Recently, our incoming 4/C MIDN completed New Student Orientation and officially began their journey with the WGNB.

Day one kicked off with a PRT, followed by an introduction to the expectations and standards of the unit. On day two, the 4/C headed to Camp Drake for a hike, physical training, and drill practice, putting their teamwork, discipline, and resilience to the test. NSO wrapped up on day three with a campus run, mentorship lunch, and a battalion barbecue, giving the 4/C a chance to celebrate their accomplishment and get to know the rest of the unit.

Congratulations to our newest members of the battalion!

This summer, our 1/C MIDN gained exposure to a variety of communities across the Navy and Marine Corps! Experiences included time with the Republic of Korea Naval Academy, OCS, a SWO cruise in Europe, an aviation cruise on the West Coast, and insight into the submarine community in Hawaii.

These opportunities allowed our MIDN to gain firsthand experience and learn more about the different communities they may serve in after commissioning.

This summer, our 2/C Midshipmen took their training to the Fleet!

Marine Option MIDN 2/C Krishana and Lippert completed their Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Summer Cruise, developing field skills, weapon proficiency, and physical endurance while gaining exposure to various Marine Corps Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) in preparation for Officer Candidates School.

MIDN 2/C Wilson and Creviston completed their Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) Cruise aboard USS Marinette (LCS-25), gaining firsthand experience in shipboard operations and participating in Fleet Week events in Baltimore and Albany.

Summer cruises provide invaluable hands-on experience, preparing our future Navy and Marine Corps officers to lead in the Fleet.

From 04JUN26 to 22JUN26, 3/C College Programmers from our unit attended Cycle 1 of New Student Indoctrination (NSI) at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois. This 2.5 week program prepares incoming NROTC students by developing their military knowledge, discipline, and professional foundation. The unit was also represented by our 2/C Midshipmen, who served as Midshipman Instructors, helping train and mentor incoming Midshipmen Candidates.
Congratulations to MIDN 3/C Victoria Holcomb on an outstanding performance during Session 1. MIDN Holcomb was selected as the Honor Graduate for her compartment of 97 Midshipman Candidates, an award presented to the individual who achieves the highest overall cumulative performance throughout the course. She was also named one of only two Scholarship Award recipients (one male and one female) selected from more than 700 Midshipman Candidates in attendance.
Congratulations to all of our Midshipmen on successfully completing NSI. We look forward to seeing their continued growth and success within the battalion.

28 APR 2026

A full year of year of hard work and grinding culminating into one night where the WGNB feels more than just a unit, we become family. Dining In, celebrating the years every triumph, and tradition. Cheering to the highs, and levying fines for the lows. There wasn’t a single MIDN nor Staff member safe from the delicacy that is taking a trip to the Grog. Special thank you to Colonel McCarthy (WGNB Alumni) for delivering an inspiring speech, and special shoutout to the Seniors for giving out one last oorah with the unit. Cheers to an amazing year!🥂

05 MAY 2026

The WGNB gave all they had and more competing against the other ROTC units at the University. In events like Pull Ups, Endurance Race, Weight Lifting and more, our midshipman put out with one goal in mind, absolute victory. After a 3 way tie breaker decided by an all out sprint from the Marine Officer Instructor (and their equivalents), the WGNB TOOK THE VICTORY. We are called the world’s greatest for a reason, give em one!

24-26 APR 2026

The WGNBs MOLAB faces their hardest and culminating event of the year, the FEX. Instead of shrinking under pressure our Midshipman rose up to the challenge. Getting assigned new billets, hard tasks, and a singular mission to accomplish, our MIDN went above and beyond the standard and set a new bar for what excellence among an officer should look like. Give em one!

Introducing MIDN 1/C Neill!

Aiden is from Minooka, Illinois and is majoring in Geology. He is currently serving as the MIC for FOLab this semester. A committed leader with a strong work ethic and grounded perspective, he continues to leave a positive mark on the battalion both professionally and personally.

Favorite Memory: “Tulane Drill Meet and the Annual WGNB Fishing Trip.”

Favorite Quote: “Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well.” – Theodore Roosevelt

We appreciate everything you’ve contributed to the battalion, and Naval Aviation is fortunate to be gaining an officer like you!

From Illini to Alumni, Midshipman to Naval Officer, the bonds and connections made last a lifetime.

We wanted to highlight some of the WGNB Class of ‘22 and ‘23, showing everyone that the unit isn’t just your friends, they are your famILLy.

Quote from LTJG Colin: “ I wanted to share how WGNB friendships last well past college! Time flies but we’ll always find an excuse to see each other!”
