Hey Champlin!

Flock Camera Program Update 🚨

The City of Champlin has received questions about the status of its Flock Safety license plate reader cameras.

Currently, no Flock cameras are operating in Champlin.

The cameras were taken offline after two camera locations were vandalized. To protect City assets and prevent additional damage, the remaining cameras have been temporarily removed.

The City understands residents have questions about the program, including:

• Why & when the cameras were implemented
• Current operational status
• What information is collected
• Data retention practices
• Privacy safeguards
• Who can access information
• Interagency data sharing policies
• Program costs and funding

The City acknowledges the many questions and concerns regarding the use of automated license plate readers. Staff are compiling responses to frequently asked questions and information will be provided in the September 14 City Council meeting packet in response to the August 24 Open Forum inquiry.

Hey Champlin!

🚲⚡E-BIKE SMART: Ride Safe. Ride Right.

We’re inviting kids, teens, and parents to join the Champlin Police for an evening dedicated to learning about e-bikes and e-motos – and this one is all about education 🤓

📅 Thursday, September 17
⏰ 5:00pm - 7:00pm
📍 Mississippi Crossings Event Center

Stop by to:

🚲 Meet our Bike Patrol Officers
⚡ Bring your own e-bike or e-moto and learn more about what you’re riding and what rules apply
❓ Ask questions about e-bikes, e-motos and Minnesota laws
🍦 Enjoy a sweet treat
⛑️ Enter our drawing to win a new bike helmet

🎤 At 5:30pm, one of our Bike Patrol Officers will give a 30-minute E-Bike & E-Moto 101 presentation. We’ll cover the difference between e-bikes and e-motos, where you can legally ride, rules of the road, safety, and some issues our officers are seeing in the community.

Already own one? Thinking about buying one for your child? Not quite sure whether that electric bike sitting in your garage is actually an “e-bike”? This is a great opportunity to find out.

Bring your bike. Bring your questions. Bring the family. 🚲

We hope to see you Thursday, September 17 at Mississippi Crossings!

Hey Champlin!

💊 Another 43 pounds collected! 💊

You are definitely putting our new Medication Collection Box to good use! We recently emptied the box again and collected another 43 pounds of unused and expired medications. 👏

During our process of emptying the collection box, we noticed some items that cannot be accepted, so this is a good opportunity for a quick reminder:

🚫 Please do not place injectable medications in the collection box.

This includes:
• Insulin pens and other injectable insulin products
• GLP-1 injection pens such as Wegovy, Ozempic, Mounjaro and similar medications
• EpiPens and other auto-injectors
• Syringes and needles

Even if the needle is retractable or enclosed within the device, the entire injector cannot be placed in our medication collection box.

If you’ve already placed one of these items in the box, don’t worry! Items received in this collection will be handled appropriately. Moving forward, however, we ask that no injectable medications or devices be placed in the box.

💉 So, what should you do with needles and sharps?

Used needles should be placed in a puncture-resistant container, such as an approved sharps container or sturdy plastic household container. Seal it securely, label it “SHARPS”, and follow local disposal guidance. Never place loose needles directly into your household garbage or our medication collection box.

For EpiPens and other auto-injectors, disposal options can be a little tricker. The FDA recommends checking for appropriate sharps disposal locations in your area or contacting its Safe Needle Disposal information line at 1-800-643-1643 for assistance.

And, of course, THANK YOU for using the box! 💙 Safely disposing of unwanted medications helps prevent misuse and keeps them out of the wrong hands.

Hey Champlin!

🐾Paws in the Park = a whole lot of good doggos!🐾

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to see us at Paws in the Park last night! We had a great time meeting so many of Champlin's four-legged residents. And, as promised... if we snapped a pic of your pup, there's a good chance you'll find them in our collage! 🐶📸❤️

If you didn't get a chance to purchase a license at the event, you can still stop by the Champlin Police Department during our regular business hours, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.

🐕Dog licenses are $12
🐕Bring your dog's current rabies vaccination information
🐕Cash or check accepted

Just a friendly reminder: Champlin City Code Section 10-5 requires dogs over six months of age to be licensed. You can read the ordinance here: https://library.municode.com/mn/champlin/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=PTIGEOR_CH10AN_S10-5LIDO

Thanks again to everyone who came out, and especially to all the pups who stopped by to say hello! 🐾💙

Hey Champlin!

🍦🚓🚒 THANK YOU for showing up!🍦🚓🚒

A little rain wasn’t going to stop the fun! 🌦️ We had such a great time at our first Popsicles with Police & Fire event at Andrew’s Park, and we were thrilled to see so many kids and families come out – even with a few raindrops!

There were plenty of smiles, conversations and, of course, popsicles to go around ❤️

A HUGE thank you to JonnyPops for generously donating the popsicles and helping make this event possible, and to our friends at the Anoka-Champlin Fire Department for joining in on the fun! 🚒

And judging by a couple of our officers’ smiles after getting to sit in the fire truck… we’re not entirely sure who had more fun – the kids or the cops 😂😂

Don’t get any ideas, guys. We’re keeping you 😉

Thank you to everyone who came out to spend the afternoon with us. Based on the turnout, we have a feeling Popsicles with Police & Fire may need to make another appearance! 👀🍦
