For the last 6 weekday shifts, Officer Ator has conducted patrol in the 1300 block of N. Division Street after school. He has monitored the school buses who are delivering students to residences along Division Street (actual photo below). During the 6 shifts, he caught at least 1 vehicle passing the school bus on each shift. Each offending vehicle was traveling the same direction as the bus and passed in the left lane. The bus stop arm and stop lights were fully activated each time.

Just to clarify any questions regarding this specific situation...Route 47 is a 4 lane roadway. It has 2 lanes going north and 2 lanes going south. THE VEHICLES TRAVELING IN THE SAME DIRECTION AS THE BUS HAVE TO STOP (yes, this includes turn lanes traveling in the same direction as the bus).

If the road has 4 or more lanes (like Division Street) and you are going in the opposite direction as the bus....you DO NOT have to stop. In fact, if you stop and everyone else keeps going like they are supposed to...you can cause an accident.

A couple people who were stopped stated they did not even notice the bus was stopped with its lights on. We agree, this can happen. There is a lot of traffic and many distractions. Please pay attention!

In addition, if you are on a 2 lane roadway (1 lane in each direction) or one way street, like the rest of the streets in Morris, EVERYONE STOPS!
