For Children's Sake

For Children's Sake For Children's Sake is a child placing agency providing therapeutic foster care and adoption services to children ages birth to 21 years old.

Our mission is to find permanent homes for children through foster care, independent living arrangements or assistance with the adoption of children who may become eligible for adoption while in our care. We are asking you for help in realizing our mission. For Children's Sake is always looking for nurturing families to receive professional foster parent training and open their homes to Virginia's children in need of foster care and adoption.

Not everyone is in a season of life where they can become a foster parent, and that’s okay. 💙

Supporting children and families in foster care can look like so many different things. It can mean opening your home for respite, giving your time, making a donation, sharing resources, advocating for better systems, or simply helping more people understand the realities of foster care.

You don’t have to do everything to do something. Find the way you can show up, and start there. 💙

Some things are simply worth confessing to 😂🤷‍♀️

We’re pretty lucky to have a community of foster parents and case workers who show up with so much heart, patience, and love every single day. 💙

One of our foster moms recently had a day where pretty much everything that could go wrong with the plan… did. 😅

Her foster child was scheduled for a visit with their biological parent, but when transportation unexpectedly fell through, she knew how important it was for that visit to still happen. So she packed up the car with her biological kids, her foster kids, everyone and made the drive into DC herself.

And instead of letting a major change of plans ruin the day, they decided to make a day of it. 🤍 They explored DC, spent time together, had fun, and turned what could have been an incredibly stressful situation into a pretty special family memory.

Foster care rarely follows a perfectly predictable schedule. Visits change. Appointments pop up. Plans fall through. Sometimes things happen that are completely outside of your control.

That’s why one of the most valuable things a foster parent can bring to the table isn’t having everything figured out, it’s flexibility.

Being willing to roll with the punches, adjust when plans change, and find a way forward can make such a difference for the children in your care.

Sometimes Plan B ends up being a pretty great day. ✈️

Our next Foster Parent Pre-Service Training starts this Monday, and there’s still time to take the first step toward becoming a foster parent. 💛

There are thousands of children in foster care across Virginia and right here in Northern Virginia, the need for foster parents continues.

Foster families are needed for children of all ages and backgrounds, including teens and sibling groups. And there isn’t just one “type” of person who can foster.

You can be single or married.
You can rent or own your home.
You can work full-time or be retired.
You can come from any background. 💛

Our next Foster Parent Pre-Service Training begins mid-August, and now is a great time to start learning what fostering could look like for you.

Interested, but not ready to commit? That’s okay. Start with a conversation.

Today is International Youth Day 💙

For youth in foster care, growing up can come with changes and challenges that many of their peers never have to navigate. Behind every statistic is a young person with their own voice, goals, talents, and hopes for what comes next.

Today is a reminder that supporting youth means more than meeting their immediate needs. It means listening to them, including them in decisions about their lives, celebrating who they are, and making sure they have consistent adults who believe in their future.

Every young person deserves to feel heard, valued, supported, and hopeful about what’s ahead.

Happy International Youth Day to the incredible young people in our communities. 🌎💛

August is Teen Mental Health Awareness Month, and this conversation matters deeply for youth in foster care.

Teens in care may be navigating separation from family, placement changes, grief, trauma, identity questions, school transitions, and the uncertainty of what comes next all while trying to do what every other teenager is doing: figure out who they are.

And not every teen will say, “I’m struggling.”

Sometimes it shows up in changes we might dismiss as attitude, withdrawal, anger, or not caring.

That’s why awareness matters. The goal isn’t to diagnose every change in behavior it’s to notice when something feels different, approach it with curiosity instead of judgment, and make sure young people know they have somewhere safe to turn.

A teen shouldn’t have to reach a breaking point before an adult pays attention.

This month, let’s learn to recognize the quieter ways young people may be communicating that they need support. 🤍

A new school year brings new opportunities, new friendships, and new challenges. Every child deserves to walk into their classroom feeling confident, prepared, and supported. 🤍

This season, we’re inviting our community to help make that possible for children in foster care. A simple donation can be a meaningful reminder that they are seen, valued, and cared for.

Thank you for helping us make the start of the school year a little brighter. 🎒✨

The person who sent you this video might see something in you that you haven’t seen in yourself yet. 💙

Our community needs more foster parents! People who are patient, kind, compassionate, and willing to open their hearts to a child who needs support.

Think you don’t qualify? You might be surprised. Many people who become incredible foster parents never imagined they could do it… until they learned they could.

You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be willing. ✨

Could you be the person a child has been waiting for?

Foster care was never meant to be carried by foster parents alone.

Children, biological families, foster families, social workers, mentors, volunteers, churches, businesses, neighbors—it truly takes a community.

While becoming a foster parent is one way to help, it isn’t the only way, and it isn’t the right fit for everyone. That doesn’t mean you have nothing to offer.

Here are just a few ways you can make a meaningful impact:

🤝 Become a respite provider and give foster parents a much-needed break.

🍽️ Bring a meal, help with errands, or offer childcare to a foster family.

🎒 Donate essentials like backpacks, school supplies, clothing, diapers, or birthday gifts.

💙 Volunteer with your local foster care organization at events or behind the scenes.

🌱 Mentor a young person who needs one consistent, caring adult in their corner.

📢 Learn about foster care and help others understand the realities instead of the stereotypes.

💵 If your season of life allows, financial donations help agencies meet urgent needs that aren’t always covered elsewhere.

No matter your stage of life, your schedule, or your experience, there is a place for you in supporting children and families involved in foster care.

The goal isn’t for everyone to foster. The goal is for every child and every foster family to know they aren’t doing this alone.

Which of these ways to help speaks to you the most?
