Military Benefit Association-Minuteman The MBA-Minuteman page is dedicated to our service members, particularly National Guard, offering info about MBA & other service member's tips/benefits.

We were founded in 1956 by a group of military members who wanted to make sure that enlisted troops had the same life insurance options as commissioned and warrant officers. This new, non-profit association, Armed Forces Enlisted Personnel Benefit Association, sponsored term life insurance programs that enlisted members could easily afford. Great benefits and caring member services helped us grow steadily into the 1960s, and in 1963 we changed our name to Military Benefit Association (MBA). Our numbers grew as we added military officers, federal civilian employ- ees, spouses of personnel who qualified for membership, and most recently honorably discharged veterans of the Uniformed Services and adult former dependents of MBA members. At MBA, we have one clear mission: to make quality life insurance affordable for everyone. We have stayed true to that mission. MBA is ready to support our National Guard team!

Happy Armed Forces Day from Military Benefit Association (militarybenefit.org).

President Truman is the impetus for this day. He led the effort to create a holiday for citizens to unite and to honor our military heroes for their patriotic service in support of the United States of America.

Stemming from the unification of the Armed Forces under the Department of Defense, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of Armed Forces Day on 21 August 1949.

Our nation's first official Armed Forces Day took place on May 20, 1950. Eleven years later, John F. Kennedy declared Armed Forces Day a national holiday. It’s celebrated on the third Saturday of every May but it is not a federal holiday. Therefore military installations are open and available for viewing/visitors.

This day is to honor those who serve or who have served in the military and an opportunity to showcase our military's top of the line equipment and abilities used to protect those in our country.

Our national holiday referred to as Thanksgiving Day didn't come about until 1863. President Lincoln in the midst of the Civil War proclaimed it a national holiday after Sarah Joseph Hale (who was the author of "Mary Had a Little Lamb") had steadfastly petitioned the nation for 36 years to make it so.

Today, we find our country in combat again but Lincoln's proclamation during the Civil War entreated all Americans to ask God to “commend to his tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife” and to “heal the wounds of the nation.” Ironically enough, his words are still on point today.

Happy Thanksgiving Day,

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - JULY 13, 2017

Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Hosts “Fire and Maneuver” Competition for Cash Prizes

Camp Pendleton, Calif. -- The Military Benefit Association (www.militarybenefit.org) will sponsor the Camp Pendleton Battle Challenge competition in conjunction with Marine Corps Community Services and Semper Fit at the Mainside Center from Wed., Jul. 26, 2017 to Fri., Jul. 28, 2017. The Military Benefit Association Battle Challenge competition is a unique fitness and ability-based military action competition designed for the U.S. Armed Forces.

“The Military Benefit Association is thrilled to sponsor this fast-moving, military-relevant action sport for the Marines at Camp Pendleton,” said Roy L. Gibson, MBA Director of Outreach. “This is competition with a purpose that combines fitness with military-skills and builds unit camaraderie. I look forward to seeing the great ‘West Coast Marines’ on the course!”

The Military Benefit Association Battle Challenge is a unit competition of two Marines per team or individuals may register to compete. Cash prizes will be awarded by Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton to the top five teams with a first-prize award of $1000. Second prize is $750, third prize is $500, and fourth prize gets $300. The fifth place team will be awarded $250. Additionally, trophies will be awarded to the top three female times and top three male times. The competition runs from noon to 5 p.m. on Wed. and Thurs. Friday, the event will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Battle Challenge is the newest competition created by On Target Challenge, producers of the internationally renowned Firefighter Combat Challenge. The Battle Challenge combines a fitness program that simulates a highly relevant series of nine battle-field-like skills required to be successful under physically challenging circumstances. Dubbed “Competition with a Purpose,” the creators have incorporated the cargo net climb, a knotted rope descent, wall surmount, ammunition resupply, low crawl, Jerry-Can shuffle, marksmanship tasks and a service member-down rescue to create this para-military relevant obstacle course.

The Battle Challenge online video [http://www.firstresponder.org/battle_rules.html] gives a great depiction of what it takes to negotiate this obstacle course full of combat-related challenges, said Gibson. “Not only is it relevant to training but it is a ton of fun!”

All interested competitors both individual and team can register at www.battlechallenge.org. Information for all interested parties is on the website. Every competitor is encouraged to visit the Military Benefit Association sign up table at the competition site to enter the various drawings for Major League Baseball “Hall of Famer,” Tony Gwynn autographed baseball, NFL “Hall of Famer,” Dan Fouts autographed football, various Yeti products and a Benchmade knife.

Media wishing to gain access to Camp Pendleton to cover the Battle Challenge should coordinate with the Camp Pendleton Public Affairs Office at 760.725.5799. The Military Benefit Association point of contact is Carl S. Ey at 202.803.1515 or [email protected].
