👻🎃 BOO! The ghosts have taken over the Chanute Fire Department! 🚒💀

Our firefighters are getting into the Halloween spirit, but don't worry, we're still here to keep our community safe! 😉👻

From our fire family to yours, we hope you have a HAPPY HALLOWEEN filled with spooky fun, sweet treats, and wonderful memories!

🕸️ A few Halloween safety reminders for our trick-or-treaters:

🎃 Carry a flashlight or glow stick and adults could wear reflective clothing so drivers can see you.

🚸 Use crosswalks, look both ways before crossing the road, and stay on sidewalks whenever possible.

👻 Little ghosts and goblins should always have a responsible adult with them.

🍬 Parents, remember to check those treats before the kids (and yourselves) dig in!

🚗 Drivers, please slow down and watch carefully for children walking from house to house.

Have fun, be safe, and remember—even ghosts need to look both ways before crossing the street, and our door will be open if you need us! 👀👻

FIRE PREVENTION MONTH AT CHANUTE FIRE DEPARTMENT! 🔥🚒

October has been a busy and exciting month at the Chanute Fire Department as we celebrated Fire Prevention Month! ❤️

Our firefighters enjoyed spending time with our community through several fun and educational activities, including:

🏠 Station Visits: We welcomed visitors to the fire station, giving them an opportunity to learn more about our department, see our equipment, and discover what firefighters do every day.

🏫 School Visits: We visited local schools to talk with students about fire prevention, fire safety, and the importance of knowing what to do in an emergency.

📚 Chanute Public Library: We had a great time visiting the library to share important fire safety tips with the kids. The highlight of the visit? Letting the kids take a turn spraying the fire hose! 💦🚒 We think it's safe to say that was a pretty big hit!

Teaching children about fire safety at an early age helps build good habits and gives them the knowledge they need to stay safe.

A BIG thank-you to our local schools, the Chanute Public Library, and everyone who welcomed us and helped make this year's Fire Prevention Month a success! We love getting out into our community, connecting with our neighbors, and helping keep Chanute safe. ❤️

Just a reminder that we will be working on storms sirens this afternoon. They may go off sporadically while the necessary repairs are made. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

On Friday, October 23rd city staff along with Goddard Enterprises will be doing maintenance on a couple storm sirens. This maintenance will cause them to be set off a few times. We will do our best to keep this to minimum. We apologize for any inconvenience this will cause.

We want to send a huge shoutout to our amazing city mechanics!Day in and day out, they work hard behind the scenes. They fix, maintain, and inspect our fire trucks so our firefighters can always answer the call.When an emergency happens, our community counts on these trucks to start and run safely. Thanks to Jeff Kovacic, Cyle, and Kevin that make up our dedicated shop team.We appreciate all your hard work, late hours, and dedication to keeping Chanute safe!

Congratulations, Lieutenant Preston “Pete” Keating!

Today, we honor Lieutenant Pete Keating as he retires after 29 years of faithful service to the Chanute Fire Department.

For nearly three decades, Pete has answered the call with courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the people of Chanute. Through emergency calls, long nights, holidays away from family, and countless moments of service, he has led by example and earned the respect of those who have had the privilege of serving beside him.

The fire service is more than a career—it is a calling. Pete embraced that calling with humility, professionalism, and dedication every single day. His leadership, friendship, and steady presence have left a lasting mark on our department and our community.

While retirement marks the end of one chapter, it also celebrates a lifetime of service that will never be forgotten. We are grateful for the sacrifices he and his family have made over the past 29 years, allowing him to serve others when they needed help most.

Chanute Fire Department was honored to attend today's special ceremony at the SEK Impact Center where the Kansas Highway Patrol proclaimed Hatten Gleue an Honorary Trooper.

Hatten was recognized for his courage, quick thinking, and decisive action when he used his vehicle to stop a downed airplane from being blown across an open field, helping prevent a potentially dangerous situation from becoming worse.

Adding to the special occasion, pilot John Von Fange traveled from South Carolina and flew in to attend the ceremony personally. It was a meaningful opportunity for those connected to the incident to come together and celebrate Hatten's heroic actions and the positive outcome of that day.

We congratulate Hatten on this well-deserved honor and commend him for demonstrating the kind of courage and selflessness that makes our communities stronger. Thank you to the Kansas Highway Patrol for recognizing this outstanding young man.

Congratulations, Hatten! Your actions made a difference, and we are proud to celebrate this special achievement with you.
