From what we can tell from our newspaper collection, one of Dolly's first concerts in North Carolina was on February 4, 1968 in Asheville with Porter Wagner, just six months or so after the release of her first solo album Hello, I'm Dolly! and and right after her and Porter Wagner's first duet album. Thanks to our partner Alexander County Library, issues of the Taylorsville Times are on DigitalNC and the Times had a regular music column called "Record Ramblings" that reported on the most popular music of the week. Dolly Parton truly was the Queen of Country Music but those of us in the library world love her especially because of her generosity with her amazing Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which gifted over 300 million books to children. May she rest in peace.

Thanks to our partner Watts Nursing Alumni Association, a batch of over 400 photographs of students who attended Watts School of Nursing (now Watts College of Nursing ) are now up on DigitalNC! On our blog today we showcase some of those photographs and dive a little more into the process of scanning slides, which is what all these photographs were on.

Two scrapbooks and a notebook from Edgecombe County Memorial Library are now on DigitalNC, one scrapbook detailing two historic landmarks in Tarboro, the town hall and the county courthouse; the other filled with a local's experience during World War I, and a genealogy notebook tracking the Castex, Clements, Jenkins, Gainer, Hopkins, Perry, and Staton families.
