The James Cates Scholars have been hard at work at the library this summer, uncovering local Black history. ✨You're invited✨ to come see a showcase of their work tomorrow from 5-7pm. Now in its sixth year, the program is a youth-led, elder-informed oral histories project dedicated to centering, exploring and sharing historically excluded Black history in Chapel Hill. This year's showcase will feature photography, artistic presentations, as well as deep dives into local history by the Scholars. The 1990s were an exciting time for Chapel Hill Public Library! Did you know our current building first opened its doors in 1994? ✨ Since the library was established 68 years ago, CHPL has called three different buildings home. The location on Library Drive was designed to serve a growing community, embrace new technology, and connect visitors with Pritchard Park. Originally 27,315 square feet, the building has since expanded to 63,000 square feet to welcome even more readers. What's your earliest memory of CHPL?
