Orange County NC Solid Waste Management

OC Solid Waste Management operates C&D landfill, solid waste convenience centers and recycling services.

The Orange County Solid Waste Management Department manages the Orange County Construction and Demolition Landfill at 1514 Eubanks Rd, including the management of separated regulated materials of clean wood, scrap metal, large appliances, corrugated cardboard, tires and yard waste. Mulch and Compost are for sale at the Landfill location. The Solid Waste Management Department is also responsible fo

r the staffing and operation of five Convenience Centers county wide, and all of the County's recycling programs including three 24-hour recycling drop-off sites, urban (weekly) curbside recycling, rural (every other week) recycling, recycling at apartment complexes, for public schools, and over 300 non-residential, government and commercial entities. Additional waste management services include household hazardous waste collection facilities, electronics recycling, education and outreach, special event recycling, and commercial food waste and organics collection.

Due to paving by the Town of Chapel Hill, the 24-Hour Recycling Drop-Off site at Cedar Falls Park will be closed as of 12am on Friday, June 5, 2026.

The single-stream recycling, corrugated cardboard, and separate glass containers will NOT be available. The expected reopening date will be July 7, 2026. The 24-Hour Food Waste Drop-Off bin will still be available to use. Check the Solid Waste website for updates.

Single-stream recycling, corrugated cardboard, and separate glass can be recycled at the other three 24-Hour Recycling Drop-Off sites and at all five staffed Waste and Recycling Centers.

No recycling collection. Recycling collection will be delayed by one day this week.

The Landfill/Disposal Centers, Waste and Recycling Centers, and Administrative Offices will be closed.

Celebrate by dropping off your food waste at one of the Orange County's 11 Food Waste Drop-Off sites!

Orange County Solid Waste is excited to offer six additional food waste drop-off bins for residents to keep their food waste from going to landfill. These bins can be accessed 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

Residents must download the BigBelly Smart Compost application on a mobile device to unlock these bins and deposit their food scraps. The app will show the locations of the six 24-hour food waste bins and their fullness. It also shows what items are accepted for composting at these sites.

This service is available to Orange County residents (including Chapel Hill residents in Durham County), small businesses in Orange County, and Orange County government employees, including employees of towns within Orange County.

Orange County Landfill: 8 am to 4 pm
Eubanks and Walnut Grove WRCs: 8 am to 6 pm
High Rock, Ferguson, and Bradshaw WRCs: CLOSED

Friday, April 3, 2026: No recycling collection. Friday recycling will be collected on Saturday, April 4th. The Landfill/Disposal Centers, Waste and Recycling Centers, and Administrative Office will be closed.
Saturday, April 4, 2026: Friday recycling will be collected on Saturday, April 4th. The Landfill/Disposal Centers and Waste and Recycling Centers will be open normal hours.
Sunday, April 5, 2026: The Waste and Recycling Centers will be closed.

Due to severe weather, the Solid Waste Administrative Office, Landfill, and all Waste & Recycling Centers will close at 12:00 PM (noon) on Monday, March 16. Curbside recycling collection services will also end at noon.

If your recycling was not collected today due to weather conditions, please secure your recycling cart and place it curbside by 7:00 AM on Tuesday, March 17. Services will resume as road and weather conditions allow.
