Happy Birthday to Shamus McGrady! As our Drone Team Commander and Admin Chief now promoted to Admin Officer, Shamus is a hardworking, responsible, and caring leader who always brings energy and positivity to ROTC. He loves interacting with people, helping others, and making everyone feel included, while also bringing a competitive mindset and great sense of humor to everything he does.

Outside of school, he enjoys working out, watching movies, spending time with his friends, and continuing his passion for drone team. No matter where he is, Shamus always knows how to make people laugh and create a good time, and weโ€™re lucky to have him as part of our program. Happy Birthday, Shamus!

Just a quick reminder that our final Booster Club meeting of this school year is tomorrow night, May 20th at 6pm in the Staff Room. Booster Club members are eligible to vote for the election of the 2026-27 Board of Directors. We would love to see you there!

Parents - Our last Booster Club meeting of the year is Wednesday, May 20th at 6pm in the Staff Room. We will be holding our yearly Board of Directors election at the meeting. We are still looking for someone to fill the role of Secretary for the upcoming school year. It is a great opportunity to get plugged in and help support your cadet! Knowledge of Google Workspace is a bonus, but if you aren't familiar with the platform, current members will assist you in learning it. If you are interested, please reach out to Adriane Sagal at [email protected] and we will add your name to the ballot. Looking forward to seeing everyone for our final meeting of what has been a wonderful year for the program!

Congratulations to our Executive Officer Brynne Barnaby! Your hard work and determination has paid off! We are so proud of you.

๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ“ SC TEACHING FELLOWS: Congratulations to this year's School District Five seniors named South Carolina Teaching Fellows!

โœ๏ธ Aiden Allen, Irmo High School (College of Charleston)
โœ๏ธ Brynne Barnaby, Chapin High School (University of South Carolina)
โœ๏ธ Brooklyn DeWitt, Chapin High School (North Greenville University)
โœ๏ธ Ezelle Sternenberg, Chapin High School (University of South Carolina)
โœ๏ธ Samantha Wilkerson, Irmo High School (Coastal Carolina University)

The prestigious South Carolina Teaching Fellowship provides $24,000 in yearly scholarships (up to $6000 a year for four years) to attend a Teaching Fellows Institution in South Carolina. Each Fellow agrees to teach in South Carolina one year for every year he or she receives the Fellowship.

โ€œWe are so proud of our seniors who have earned this prestigious recognition and opportunity, and we are thankful for all of our wonderful teachers and families who helped influence their decision to pursue a degree in education,โ€ said School District Five Chief Academics Officer Tina McCaskill. โ€œThese students are shining examples of why the Teaching Fellows program was created-- to recruit the best and brightest to the teaching profession and to continue to develop and enhance their leadership abilities. We look forward to welcoming them into the profession (hopefully back home in D5) in a few years.โ€

Applicants for the program undergo a rigorous selection process that includes an online application, an interview and presentation in front of a team of three educators, and a scored response.

Please join us on Thursday, May 7th, at 6pm in the Arena Lobby for our annual Awards Ceremony. Awards and ribbons will be presented to those Cadets who put in the hard work this semester. Weโ€™ll also be saying goodbye to our graduating seniors. At the end of the ceremony is where we let everyone know who will be in the major leadership positions for next year and conduct our Change of Command! As always, the Booster Club will provide light refreshments. There will also be a limited amount of merchandise for sale. This is a mandatory event for Cadets.

Hope to see you all there!

Thanks to a grant from the Greater Chapin Community Foundation, 27 NJROTC cadets were able to go zip lining at the The Gorge Zipline Tours in NC at the end of February. While some cadets faced their fear of heights, others were exhilarated to conquer a new adventure! This was an excellent opportunity for cadets to bond as a unit and develop new skills. Our program is blessed to have the support of local organizations like the Greater Chapin Community Foundation!

Please join us this Wednesday (4/15) for our next to last meeting of the 25-26 school year. If you have a younger cadet and are looking to get plugged in, we would love to have you join us! Elections for the 2026-27 Board of Directors will be held in May making this is a great opportunity to meet current board members and hear about what being on the BoD entails. We have parents with outgoing seniors and need new parents to jump in for the 26-27 school year. It's a really great way to meet new people and serve your community! Plus your kid will think you're really cool for helping out - just kidding - they never think we're cool. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

WOW! What an amazing event the CHS NJROTC had this past Saturday! Cadets did a fantastic job hosting the Anchors Aweigh 5k, Fun Run & the Obstacle EGGstravaganza and Fun Zone for little ones! This was an incredible opportunity for the cadets to provide the community with an event that had something for the whole family. We had a great turnout for our 5k and Fun Run (and some REALLY fast runners)! The Obstacle EGGstravanganza was a hit for the kids AND the cadets. There were smiles on everyones' faces as they jumped, crawled, ran, and balanced their way through the obstacle course. Then they got to enjoy face painting, balloon animals, bubbles, and crafts. A huge photo dump will come soon!

We could not have hosted this event without our amazing community sponsors! A HUGE thank you to the following sponsors:

Our Presenting Sponsor BMW of Columbia who not only provided us with a sizable donation, they brought 2 exquisite vehicles to the event to check out!

HIS Radio who provided on air shoutouts and brought their Fun Patrol out to the event.

Publix Charities who supported the 5k and the Fun Run!

Total Mortgage of Chapin and EXP Realty who supported the event and Stacey Yudice who came out with some fun giveaways.

The Town of Chapin supported us so we could host the event!

YMCA of Chapin supported the event AND brought treats for the little ones. They will be opening their new gym right across the street from CHS in late Spring!!!

Fidelis Family Retreat who supported us financially and volunteered at the event to make sure all ran smoothly.

American Legion Post 193 & the American Legion Riders who brought their super cool trikes out to the event, supported the event financially, AND gave treats for the kids. You guys are GREAT!

Concordia Music Academy supported the event and brought these fantastic toy instruments for the kids (so fun)! They are a new business here in Chapin offering music lessons for all ages. Check them out!

St. Simon & St. Jude Episcopal Church who supported the event financially and brought goodies for the kids.

Thank you to First Community Bank, Cash's Chicken, John Stickney, Allen Creighton, Palmetto Residential Services, Generations of Chapin, Chapin Community Christian Church, Costco and Walmart for also supporting us! This was a HUGE endeavor and we could not have done it without you all!

A special thanks to Laila's Place for once again bringing their over the top donuts and breakfast sandwiches (the blueberry fritters this year were KILLER) and Kona Ice for making super yummy smoothies!

A shout out to our photographers Lily Mohr, Claire Tanner, and Johanna Buff for capturing the day!

Thank you to all the parents, friends, and family members that signed up and came out to the event. The cadets will remember this forever!

Cadets - You did an outstanding job this year! It was an absolute joy to watch you all work so hard to serve others! The dedication and leadership skills you displayed will enable you to do great things in the future!
