‼️The Blue Ribbon Commission’s work aims to overhaul Connecticut’s outdated ECS formula (still based on a $11,525 foundation from 2013) and special education funding so rural towns like Chaplin get more predictable state aid.
For Chaplin this would mean higher state ECS dollars, better Excess Cost Grant coverage for high-needs students, and less pressure on local property taxes.‼️

Dear Neighbor,
Please be advised that Algonquin Gas Transmission, LLC ("Algonquin") will be conducting operational
maintenance on its compressor station that will involve controlled venting of natural gas at the
facility located at 539 Tower Hill Road, Chaplin, Connecticut. Controlled venting is a safe, routine
operational procedure that is periodically required to support maintenance activities.
The controlled venting may occur intermittently on the following dates, beginning at approximately
7:00 a.m.
• August 3, 2026
• August 15, 2026
• August 19, 2026
During these operations, natural gas will be safely released where it will naturally dissipate.
Algonquin personnel will be on site throughout the duration of the work to monitor operations and
ensure they are conducted safely and in accordance with all applicable procedures.
Residents and businesses in the surrounding area may notice temporary increases in noise levels
and/or the odor of natural gas associated with these activities. The noise may be accompanied by an
odor resulting from the odorant mercaptan which is injected into the natural gas to make it
recognizable for safety reasons. These conditions are expected and do not pose any danger to
persons, property, or the environment. There is no cause for concern.
Natural gas is naturally odorless and is lighter than air. It will quickly rise and dissipate into the
atmosphere. The odorant may linger as minute traces will separate from the natural gas that is
released.
Please be advised that local police and fire departments have been, or will be, notified in advance of
these scheduled operations.
