School’s out, the grills are hot, and the mosquitoes are training for the Olympics. As we officially kick off summer, here are a few summer safety reminders from your Chapman Fire Department:

☀️ Hydrate — Water is your friend. Energy drinks, soda, and “just one more beer” do not count.

🔥 If your flip flops are melting to the driveway, it’s probably too hot for your dog’s paws too.

🚗 Never leave kids or pets in the car — Not even “for just a minute.” Kansas heat turns vehicles into ovens fast.

🏊 If you have a pool party, designate a water watcher. “I thought someone else was watching them” is not a safety plan.

🌩️ When thunder roars, go indoors. Your lawn chair is not lightning resistant.

🔥 Grills belong AWAY from houses, garages, deck railings, and Uncle Larry’s jean shorts.

🧴 Sunscreen is cheaper than aloe vera and regret.

🚒 Check your smoke alarms — because the only thing that should be smoking this summer is the BBQ.

🚑 Drink responsibly. The back of an ambulance is not the VIP ride home package.

Have fun, make memories, and please try not to give us extra paperwork this summer. Stay safe out there!

Today we pause to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend or the unofficial start of summer—it is a day of remembrance. We reflect on the courage, sacrifice, and commitment of those who never made it home, and we recognize the families who carry that loss every day.

As first responders, we understand that service comes with risk. Today we stand in respect of those who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty, and we recommit ourselves to serving our communities with the same dedication and integrity.

Take a moment today to remember. Whether it’s a quiet thought, a visit to a memorial, or a conversation with family, let’s ensure their sacrifice is never forgotten.

We remember them.

The Chapman Fire Department is working closely with the Chapman Police Department, Emergency Management, and other Emergency Services as we continue to closely monitor the approaching storms and changing weather conditions.

As always, our departments have procedures, operations, and response plans in place, and we train year-round for any situation that may arise. Our crews are prepared and ready to respond if needed to help protect our community.

We encourage everyone to stay weather aware, have multiple ways to receive alerts, and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather.

Please be aware.

For the last three days, members of your Chapman Fire Department and Dickinson County Fire District #1 have been deployed in the Meade area as part of the Dickinson County Wildland Task Force. This joint crew continues working wildfire operations and support efforts through Tuesday.

We are proud of the dedication, teamwork, and long hours being put in by everyone representing our communities on the fire line. Stay safe to all crews continuing operations in Meade County.

When activated, Your Chapman Fire Dept still maintains full fire protection coverage back home.

🔥 Happy International Firefighters’ Day 🔥
Today we honor the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of firefighters around the world.

From structure fires to medical emergencies, from storms to everyday calls for help—firefighters show up when it matters most. They run toward danger when others are running away, all to protect their communities, families, and complete strangers.

We also take a moment to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their legacy lives on in every call answered and every life saved.

To all firefighters—past and present—thank you for your service, your strength, and your heart. 🚒❤️

As we roll into the end of the school year and kick off summertime fun, your Chapman Fire Department has a few reminders to keep things safe… and keep us from having to come visit you in a not-so-fun way:

☀️ Hydrate like it’s your job—water, not just energy drinks and pop. Heat exhaustion is real, and it doesn’t care how tough you are

🔥 Grilling? Stay with it. “I’ll just run inside real quick” is how decks and burgers both get destroyed

🚒 Fire pits are great—bonfires the size of a small house are not. Keep them controlled and fully out before you walk away

🎆 Fireworks: if it explodes, shoots, or flies… give it space. Better yet, let the professionals handle it so you keep all your fingers

🏊 Water safety isn’t optional—watch kids at all times. It’s quick, silent, and unforgiving

🚗 Slow down in neighborhoods—kids, bikes, and pets don’t look both ways like they should

🌩️ Summer storms roll in fast—have a plan, and don’t try to “beat the storm”

🚭 Tossing ci******es out the window = grass fires. Grass fires = us showing up, and nobody enjoys that

🧯 Check your smoke detectors and replace batteries—yes, even that one that chirps at 2am

🔌 Don’t overload outlets with fans, AC units, and everything else trying to beat the heat

⛺ Camping? Fully extinguish campfires and don’t burn trash—especially not in dry conditions

🐶 Pets need shade and water too—if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them

🚫 No parking in front of hydrants—we promise, it will not end well for your vehicle if we need it

🍻 If you’re drinking, don’t drive. Call a ride. We’d rather you be annoyed than injured

🚪 Lock your vehicles and homes—summer also brings a spike in opportunistic theft

We’re all for a good time—but we’d rather see you at community events than emergency calls. Take care of each other, make smart choices, and let’s keep this summer safe, not sorry.

Turn Around, Don’t Drown

A reminder from your Chapman Fire Department:

Flooded roads are more dangerous than they look.
Just a small amount of moving water can sweep away a vehicle—and you never know what’s under the surface.
