Drivers, a child may be difficult—or even impossible—to see when they are in the bus’s Danger Zone. That’s why it’s so important to NEVER pass a stopped school bus!

🚸 The Danger Zone can extend beyond the immediate area around the bus, depending on where the bus stop is located. Always slow down, stay alert, and watch carefully for children.

One moment of patience could protect a child’s life.

🚸 The first day of school is right around the corner.

As students get ready to return to the classroom, the Chardon Police Department reminds all motorists to use extra caution in and around school zones.

Please remember to:
🟡 Slow down and obey posted school zone speed limits.
🟡 Put your phone away and avoid all distractions while driving.
🟡 Watch for children walking, riding bicycles, and crossing streets.
🟡 Stop for school buses when required by law.

A few extra moments of attention can make all the difference in protecting our students and school staff.

Let's work together to ensure every child arrives at school and returns home safely this school year.

The first day for Chardon Local Schools is Wednesday, August 19!!

Please be aware that the lobby entrance to the Chardon Police Department, Chardon Municipal Court, and Chardon City Hall will be closed to the public beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, through Thursday, August 13, 2026, due to repairs and maintenance work on the building’s entryway and surrounding concrete.

The entrance is expected to reopen Friday morning, August 14. If the closure needs to remain in place on Friday, this post will be updated with additional information.

The Chardon Police Department will remain fully operational during this time. If you have a police matter or need to contact the Police Department, please call 440-286-6123.

Chardon City Hall and Municipal Court will be closed to the public on August 12 and 13, 2026 and potentially August 14, 2026. During this period the City will be performing needed repairs to the entryway and surrounding concrete. City staff will still be available by phone, email, or through contact forms on the website during this time.

You can’t see what’s beneath the water, and fast-moving water can quickly take away your vehicle’s control and sweep your vehicle and passengers away.

Protect yourself, your passengers, and your vehicle: Turn around and find a safe, dry alternate route.
