To my Family, Friends, Public Officials and Members of the community.
After 24 years of serving proudly as the Fire Chief of the Chardon Fire Department, I will be stepping back from the position.
As many of you know, for the last two years, we at the Department have been working on a succession plan program to prepare Asst. Chief Justin Geiss to fill the role of Fire Chief. Chief Geiss will move into his new position this Thursday January 5th.
Chief Geiss is very capable, energetic, and willing to make the change. Under his leadership will come continued professionalism and new ideas in the ever changing Fire and Emergency Medical Services profession.
In January of 2022 I was promoted to the Asst. Chief’s position with the City of South Euclid Fire Department. This new position does not allow me to be at the CFD during the week and normal business hours. With the Department setting a new record of 2,206 emergency calls during 2022, the time has come for there to be a full time Fire Chief who can manage and be present on a daily basis.
On the 5th, I will move to the position of Assistant Chief with the Department. Along with Assistant Chief Tom Hummel and the Officers of the Department, we will assist Chief Geiss in continuing the professional management of the Department.
Over the years I have been honored to be surround by so many great people from the Department, Public Officials and the Community who have helped to make the job of Fire Chief very exciting and rewarding.
Together with all of the hard working men and women of the Chardon Fire Department who put their lives on the line every day for the betterment of others, we will continue to provide the best fire and rescue protection for the community possible. Through education, training, state of the art equipment, safety programs, and dedication and pride in the community, we will continue to make the communities that we service the safest places to live, work, and visit.
Thank you Larry L. Gaspar
