We are so thankful to say the power is back, our server is up and running, and we are back in the office. Much appreciation to all of the agencies who assisted during this time, including, Chardon Fire Dept. - Ohio, Claridon Community Helps, Continental Fire, the countless electric teams that came in from all over - including other states, you for your patience, and our amazing team. Please forgive me if I missed someone. It wasn't always easy as so many were dealing with their own power outage at home, but everyone pulled together to make things happen. Thank you!!

Need food? Pantries and produce distributions are open this weekend! Find food near you:https://www.greaterclevelandfoodbank.org/files/assets/gcfbpartnersopen8-8through8-121.pdf

As Geauga County recovers from Tuesday’s damaging storm, resources are available if you need food, a place to recharge your phone or connect to WiFi, or to cool off and recharge yourself. Our United Way 211 navigators have received an increase in calls from residents, and we are sharing information to help with some of the most requested needs.

Geauga Hunger Task Force pantries at the First United Methodist Church of Middlefield is open Saturday 9:30 to 11 a.m., and the Pilgrim Christian Church in Chardon Ohio is open today from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The Chagrin Falls Park Community Center is open by appointment; call 440-247-6030.

FirstEnergy Corp. has teamed up with Giant Eagle to provide two gallons of water and one bag of ice for free to customers at the store’s Chesterland and Middlefield locations, while supplies last.

The Geauga Family YMCA is allowing non-members to use their showers and providing coffee, tea, water, and fruit, outlets to charge devices, and a cooling station throughout the weekend.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency or see a downed power line, call 911.

Truly an amazing group of people. Such a blessing to live in this community!

Yesterday's good story that spilled over into today...On Sunday, New Mercies Church contacted me to see if I could use buns and burgers leftover from their event on Saturday. On Monday, Claridon Township contacted me to see if I could use the leftover buns and burgers from Get Down With the Town. On Thursday morning Burton Food Pantry contacts me to see if I could use broccoli, nectarines, cucumbers and zucchini that would be going bad as they didn't have power. At noon time, Chardon Fire Chief contacted me to see if Claridon Community Helps could provide a sack lunch to the residents living at Murray Manor and Harris House as the food they had in their refrigerator was no longer good and they didn't have the means to travel to a restaurant. Of course I said yes. Just give me a minute to think it through. I contacted Burton Food Pantry, Paula contacted Chardon Food Pantry. We both contacted a few people. Three hours later we gathered at Claridon Congregational Church. We didn't just provide a sack breakfast/lunch we also provided a hot meal with a homemade cookie of course! Buns from earlier in the week became PB & J. Also an extra bun for the shredded barbeque chicken sandwich that we had in the freezer that would become part of their hot meal. Cucumbers became salad for the residents last night. Geauga Hunger Task Force's Chardon and Burton Food Pantry happily supplied us with the items we needed for the sack lunch in addition to the nectarines I had already picked up. In total we provided 150 hot dinners and 150 sack breakfast/lunch last night. Then today, yesterday's broccoli became today's broccoli for the children's lunches. And more cucumber salad was made for the kids. We live in a fantastic community! Not only is everyone willing to help each other out even at the last minute, they are willing to step in even when they themselves don't have electricity! And we all know that means no showers or laundry being done. But it didn't matter.

There are not enough words to properly thank everyone involved to make this happen. Our tenants were so grateful and happy to have the food. At one location there was a group in the community room enjoying the meal together. It was wonderful to hear the buzz of conversation paired with laughter. Thank you so much!!!!

Giant Eagle is giving out 2 gallons of water and one bag of ice per day, until Wednesday. No residency requirements. Not at all locations. In Geauga, it is Chesterland and Middlefield. Thanks DeRien for sharing this information!

New location for the Comfort Station. They have food, charging capabilities-bring your own cord, and is a good place if you’re on oxygen.

Still no power locally for many. The “comfort station” with food, beverages, A/C, and charging station will reopen at 11am at CHARDON FD Community Room (use side / South St entrance). There is no power again at Methodist Church. CEI indicates we should plan for Wed 8/14, just in case.
