Good Morning Everyone. Today, we highlight Firefighter Dave Dureiko. Dave is 13 year student of the job and has been with Munson Fire since 2019 after he transferred from another Fire Department. Dave is currently assigned to "B" Shift. He holds numerous certifications but the one he takes the most pride in is teaching. Dave has a deep burning passion for educating the current and next generation of Firefighters not only in our department but across the country as well. His goal is to truly leave the Fire Service better than he found it as it is the best job in the world. It is no secret that he lives, eats, breathes, and sleeps all things Firefighting. In 2021 Dave hosted and organized a week long training conference for over 150 firefighters from across the country with plans to do this again next September. He would not be able to do all of this without the love and support of his spouse. Dave is happily married to his wife Paige and together they have 3 children, Callum, Elowyn, and Maisie. In his free time, Dave enjoys traveling to Tennessee with his family and you may have guessed it from above, teaching and attending Fire Conferences across the Country.

Longer post....

This past Saturday, November 18th, some of you may have noticed a large amount of smoke and Fire Department activity on Ravenna Rd. Your Munson Fire Department along with numerous firefighters from area departments conducted Live Fire training at a residence that was donated by Best Sand. Over the course of several hours, firefighters trained on Rapid Intervention, Search and Rescue, Fire Attack, Ventilation, Overhaul, Command, and Fire Behavior. These are critical skills that are necessary to effectively combat structure fires when they arise.

Conducting Live Fire Training in an acquired building is no easy task. Countless hours are spent making sure the structure is free from asbestos, applying for and obtaining necessary permits, removing shingles, boarding up windows and making extra egress points, hauling in pallets and straw, developing burn plans, setting up hoses and necessary water supply, all before any training actually occurs. Because of this tedious, labor intensive, and expensive process, many departments elect to not conduct live fire training in their community. Your Munson Fire Department is committed to providing this type of training as it is the most realistic. We at Munson Fire have an incredible team of instructors who are willing to put in the behind the scenes work to pull this off and are also blessed with a community that supports this mission. This is now the 4th structure that has been donated by Best Sand/ Covia to the department over the past 4 years. Daniel Peders, owner of Amainthus LLC, donated the required Asbestos inspection as he quotes "Live Fire Training is necessary and important". In addition, 3 businesses in Munson Township also helped support this years training. AQUA DOC Lake & Pond Management Inc. donated over 60 pallets for us to use as fuel and Centerra Country Store provided 40 bales of straw at a discounted price. Last but not least new business PuroClean of Western Reserve donated 10 sheets of OSB and 25 sheets of drywall.

Thank you to the following departments who were represented.

Now that the current officers of our department have been highlighted, it is with great honor that we recognize a recently retired and now lifetime member of Munson Fire. Captain Nick Meros is no stranger to Munson and Geauga County. If you were lucky enough to work with him or know him, it was no secret he was one of the friendliest and happiest guys to be around. In October of 1996, he joined the ranks of Munson Fire. 10 years later in February of 2007 he was promoted to Captain until he retired in early 2023. He served faithfully and led the men and women of A- Shift (Kings of the Jungle) and was the Public Relations King. Captain Nick knew everyone and everyone knew him. Captain Meros was famous for his many quotes he would repeat on a regular basis with one of the most humbling being "Ive always been proud to be a Munson Firefighter. I always say it has given me a life and has given me a wife". Captain Nick is now enjoying his retirement with his wife Theresa (also a former Munson Firefighter) and can be found either in the woods or on the water. Captain Nick is an avid fisherman so if you are ever on Pymatuning Reservoir be sure to be on the look out for the guy smiling as he is reeling in a 47" Muskie.

Thank you Capt. for your many years of service, commitment, leadership, but most importantly your contagious attitude of positivity. It was an absolute honor to work for you sir! I love ya brother and keep on keeping on!

We want to acknowledge this important month as it reaches out and touches so many people in different ways. Our fire department is no different. We are one big family. ๐Ÿš’๐ŸšจSeptember 11th Remembrance๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿš’

Today marks the 22nd anniversary of September 11th. Please join us in honoring the memories of those who lost their lives that day, and honoring the greatest rescue the Fire Service has ever made.

The FDNY showed the world they had the courage to act, the courage to keep climbing, the courage to keep pushing on for their fellow man, woman, and child. They showed the best of the Fire Service that day and we can never forget that!

"There is no greater love than to lay down oneโ€™s life for oneโ€™s friends".

๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿšจ August 2023 Run Totals ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ

In August 2023 your Munson Firefighters responded to 155 calls for service. This including 3 structure fires, a multitude of EMS calls, and dozens of calls related to the recent storm. As you will notice average response times increased when compared to previous months but this is due to the large number of storm related calls. We were blessed in not having any EMS calls during that event. Year to date calls brings us to 1096 which puts us on track to have another record year, something most Fire Departments are experiencing nationwide. Rest assured your Fire Department is always ready and as always we thank the community for their continued support.

It's easy to fall short in today's world. We all have stresses and experiences that challenge our ability to uphold these traits at times.
