Good Sunday Morning!

We know it’s been not the spring any of us wanted. Lost family, church, school, and events with friends. We also realize that many of our normal activites are no longer normal as we know them. The turning of summer is here and we know that will be different.

But,do realize that even though we (Lucas County) have had some COVID -19 cases, we were three of the last counties in Iowa to claim it! That is amazing during all of this.

We all know it’s not easy to do all the things we should do. But, we are doing an amazing job at it.

Today is the last day of May. The sun is out, birds are chirping, and temperatures are amazing. Get outside, start the grill up, take a walk, play catch with your kids, or whatever makes you happy.

Wisdom of, “This too shall pass,” will pass!
Enjoy your Sunday Chariton!

For Immediate Release:

Lucas County Public Health and ADLM Emergency Management

As of 5/30/2020, 2 new case of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Lucas County for a total of 16 confirmed cases. The age groups of the new positive cases are 1 adult (18-40 years of age) and 1 older adults (61-80 years of age). So far 1 case has recovered. The others are receiving appropriate medical care.

Lucas County Public Health is working closely with the Iowa Department of Public Health, ADLM Emergency Management, Lucas County Health Center and our healthcare partners to respond to and mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The ADLM Emergency Operations center is operational and every member of our local government, health care system and emergency management team are focusing their efforts on the COVID-19 response.

It is important for residents to make prevention a priority by practicing social distancing, staying away from gatherings of people, avoiding nonessential travel and maintaining a 6 foot distance between yourself and others, stay home if you can and if social distancing isn’t possible then wear a facemask.

Everyone can do his or her part to help respond to COVID-19. Every-day prevention methods are very important:

ü Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

ü Stay home if you are sick

ü Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or elbow/upper arm.

If you are sick or experiencing illness, particularly with symptoms of fever, cough, and difficulty breathing call your health care provider. And please stay home away from others if you are ill until you are fever-free for 3 days without taking medication, symptoms have improved and it has been at least 10 days since first symptom.

We want to assure our community that we are aggressively responding to protect the health and safety of Lucas County residents. We strongly encourage our community to follow the recommendations of local public health and healthcare providers.

05/28/2020

An important statement from Lucas County Little League.

Tonight, the Lucas County Little League Board had a meeting to discuss the 2020 baseball season.

It is with a heavy heart that I announce we will not be playing baseball this season. This was the hardest decision we have made as a board and something we did not take lightly. This is definitely not how I envisioned this season ending.

We did seek advice from Public Health and ADLM Emergency Management and they both advised against playing this season due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The biggest deciding factor in not playing this season is the attached recommended guidelines from Little League International and also CDC guidelines. The amount of extra work that would have to go into every game every night would be overwhelming for both the adults and the kids trying to have fun playing the game.

To help you all understand our decision I have attached recommended guidelines from Little League. You can also see all of the recommendations at www.littleleague.org.

We will be holding a refund day in the near future and I will notify everyone of when that is. There will be two options for refund.

Option 1:
You can donate your registration fees back to the league.
By doing so this will help cover field maintenance, costs of new batting cage nets already purchased this year, Hats already purchased, catchers gear already purchased, baseballs already purchased etc.
If you do choose to donate your registration fee back to the little league you can pick up a hat and a brand-new game ball that would have been used this season on refund day.

Option 2:
You will receive a refund less $25.00 to help cover he cost of maintaining the fields for the rest of the year.

I hope you all understand this was not an easy decision.

Sincerely,

Justin Peterson
LCLL President

Vredenburg – Chariton Family Aquatic Center Closed for the 2020 Season

The City of Chariton and Chariton Park and Recreation regrets to make this announcement with the start of the summer here, but due to the issues at hand with COVID-19, we will not be opening the Vredenberg – Chariton Family Aquatic Center for the season.

The current situation of COVID -19 and guidelines from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) will make it a challenge to maintain the levels of sanitation needed to ensure a safe environment for everyone. All residents who have purchased passes for the 2020 season, will be able to use the passes for the 2021 season.

The Chariton Park and Recreation Department will be focusing on new opportunities for community outreach for the summer months. Please watch for Facebook updates and the City’s website – Chariton.org for programs online.
