It's been a few months, but drive tests are now being conducted by appointment at most DOT-operated facilities (except Fort Dodge and Des Moines River Place). Walk-in customers will not be served.

To schedule an appointment, go to https://iowadot.gov/mvd/driverslicense/service-selector and choose “testing” from the drop-down menu to walk you through the steps on how to receive service and make an appointment. If you don’t see any appointments currently available, we encourage you to check back often as we are attempting to add additional appointments and there are sometimes cancellations.

For drive tests:
Iowa DOT staff will:
• wear appropriate PPE as they are conducting drive tests.
• take your temperature.
• wipe down touchpoints with sanitizing wipes (door handles).

You will be required to:
• provide and wear a face mask during your drive test that cover your mouth and nose (homemade cloth masks are fine).
• answer health screening questions to determine your risk of exposure to COVID-19.
• provide a clean automobile that is safe for our staff to enter.

Vredenburg – Chariton Family Aquatic Center Closed for the 2020 Season

The City of Chariton and Chariton Park and Recreation regrets to make this announcement with the start of the summer here, but due to the issues at hand with COVID-19, we will not be opening the Vredenberg – Chariton Family Aquatic Center for the season.

The current situation of COVID -19 and guidelines from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) will make it a challenge to maintain the levels of sanitation needed to ensure a safe environment for everyone. All residents who have purchased passes for the 2020 season, will be able to use the passes for the 2021 season.

The Chariton Park and Recreation Department will be focusing on new opportunities for community outreach for the summer months. Please watch for Facebook updates and the City’s website – Chariton.org for programs online.

“It was a beautiful day in October ’96, the kind that makes you want the fall to last forever. My biggest concern was Homecoming the next weekend. That changed when a family friend came to my high school class saying my mom collapsed from a headache. She died the next day from a brain aneurysm.

Luckily, she had talked to us about organ donation. Her parents had donated their bodies to science when they died, and she said she wanted to leave a legacy too. I’m so thankful we had that conversation because when my dad asked if we wanted to donate her organs, it was the easiest decision we made during that very difficult time.

She saved six lives through organ donation and improved many more through tissue donation.

I miss her every day, and it breaks my heart she didn’t get to see her children grow up or meet her grandchildren. She has missed so many moments. But, she helped so many others make more.

I hope you’ll take a moment to talk to your family about organ and tissue donation, and check ‘yes’ on your license.” bit.ly/2Es2Zxa

Once your child successfully passes the test, you'll still need to come in to our service center after the health crisis is over to complete the process before your child can legally drive with you. See more at https://iowadot.gov/mvd/driverslicense/skip-the-trip.

Buying a new vehicle? During this difficult time, Gov. Reynolds waived the requirement to title/register a new or transferred vehicle within 30 days until the health scare is over. The time limit to get license plates for all vehicles, including commercial vehicles, purchased from a dealer is also waived for now. But if you want to take care of the title and registration, most county treasurer's are working via mail or email. Please check with your local county treasurer's office.
