The Roseville General Store

The Roseville General Store The Roseville General Store was truly a focal point of the Roseville, Iowa area for many people. Also, the store is open to the public every Labor Day weekend.

There is nothing in today’s world that really compares with an old General Store. It is the hope of the Koenigsfeld family to preserve this important part of the past and to share it with future generations. To accomplish this goal the store was moved to a new location 3 miles north to the Cedar Valley Engine Club. This is a great place for the store to be, because this club is dedicated to preser

ving local heritage and is in the Roseville area. The move down the road involved several power lines, a new foundation to rest on and the cost of around $28,000. If you appreciate the history of a tiny piece of rural America, the Koenigsfeld family would be very thankful for your donation. Donation information and more can be found on the Roseville store website: www.restorerosevillestore.com.

Al and Mary Koenigsfeld have made a memorial donation to the Roseville General Store in memory of Gene Rasmussen. Gene was so very helpful to our family project. Over the years our families crossed paths often. Bev and Mary both taught at Washington School in Charles City. Our kids learned to swim in their pool. Gene and his family were the best. Reading his wonderful obituary we learned more about him. Gene enlisted in the Navy serving with distinction in the Seabees Mobile Construction Battalion 5. The SeaBee motto "Can Do" is what we experienced with Gene. Gene asked us if we needed any help. We did. Everything he did for us was perfect...completely restored a display case, restored the original counter and bread racks, and donated his Shell gas pump with a plaque in memory of Bev. Gene kept his "Can Do" attitude forever. An example for us all. 🙏🏻

Al and Mary Koenigsfeld and Fr. Jim Koenigsfeld have made a donation to the Roseville General Store in memory of their cousin, Ken Koenigsfeld. Al and Ken kept in touch through the years mostly giving each other grief about their teams...the MN Golden Golphers and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Ken was loved by many. His life was well lived and one to be proud of.

Robert & Patricia Schmitt and Al & Mary Koenigsfeld have made a memorial donation to the Roseville Store in memory of Eugene Meier.
Eugene was a frequent customer at the Store. He and Lawrence had many great talks.
Eugene was a good neighbor and farmer and friend. To quote a line from his beautiful obituary: "a man who loved the land, valued integrity, and found joy in life's simple moments." 🙏

The 122 year old Roseville General Store was a very busy place over Labor Day Week-end 2025. We had 924+ people visit us from 16 states and 4 foreign countries. This always amazes us. The states were Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Virgina, Florida, Pennsylvania, California, Wisconsin, South and North Dakota, Tennessee, Delaware, Minnesota, Nebraska, Colorado, and of course lots of Iowans. The foreign countries were Haiti, Germany and England.

Thanks to Dale Stern for doing another great job at our Mystery Item Table. Dale had fun getting people to make a guess about what it was. We had 5 correct guesses that it was a nut/walnut cracker and Emma O’Neill’s name was drawn. Emma chose to donate her $5 winning back to the Store. The nut cracker was made by family and club member, Joe Barry. Joe told us his father, Andrew Barry, gave him the idea . Andrew was a very creative man so Joe wasn’t sure if his dad designed it himself or if he had seen one someplace. Joe also made the large letters on the FOOD building… you could see them from Rockford. You’ll enjoy a few laughs about what people guessed and here are a few: angle maker, a paper cutter, label press, to***co cutter, book glue binder, fruit smasher, a toy cannon, card board crimper, Hoyt apple press, leather creaser/ folder, sheet metal crimper /90 degree bender, crud crusher, World’s First Mammogram, and last but not least, someone with initials J.J. wrote “this is a tool to keep Dale Stern out of “salloons”.

A big thanks goes out to all our family members who helped at the Store and for the Club. Many took multiple shifts at the gate, cleaned in the kitchen, the corncrib, the barn, hauled door prizes, and so much more. Thanks to our son Matt, for sending a crew from Germany to help us in multiple ways. Luke and Alena Koenigsfeld, Julius Aurnhammer and Leon Braun. We are so proud of these 16,17-, and 19-year-olds! Aubrey Michaels jumped in wherever needed. She is an FFA volunteer and now considered one of our crew. Aubrey separates her time between her family, FFA, Band, sports and working for us. She has plans to go to college and is saving money to do so.

Thanks to everyone who stopped in this year. We always have something new for you to see. And as usual, “See Ya at the Store!” Al and Mary Koenigsfeld

Al and Mary Koenigsfeld have made a donation to the Roseville General Store in memory of Jerry Voss of Clarksville. Al met the Voss family while teaching in the Clarksville Community School District. That's how we met Jerry. He became a loyal supporter of the Roseville Store, bringing us things to add to our collections and sharing what he knew about them.
Jerry's interest in antique farm equipment brought him to the Engine Club's Labor Day Show . He became a welcome figure at the Store. Jerry's family wrote "Jerry never met a stranger and could talk to anyone." That's what Jerry enjoyed about the Store. Pictured Jerry, on the left, Bill Ruzicka in the middle and Joe Koenigsfeld on the right, "talking things over."

Al & Mary Koenigsfeld and Father Jim Koenigsfeld have made a donation to the Roseville Store in memory of Mike Farrington.
Our family remembers Mike as a man of strong faith who lived his life with kindness, generosity, humor, and who was genuinely interested in other people and what they were doing. His family wrote , "Mike's life was a story well lived--one filled with faith, love, laughter, and countless cherished moments. Those who knew him were truly blessed, and his legacy will continue...as Michael would always end his conversations "Bye for now.””
Rest in peace, Mike, and may you have many more conversations with loved ones in heaven.

Al and Mary Koenigsfeld have made a donation to the Roseville General Store in memory of Angela Smith.
Angie was a wonderful lady. Angie's husband passed away at age 39 when Angie was only 34. Her faith, courage, and strength allowed her to raise 6 children and care for her disabled mother.
This lady was always kind, caring and devoted to God and family. After working with Angie on Guild and Circle events at IC, we knew she was special. Many feel they are better people after experiencing Angie's gentle positivity and sincerity.
Angie shared a story with us about the Roseville Store delivery truck. Lawrence Koenigsfeld stopped at farms to sell groceries in his 1939 Chevy panel delivery truck. Children would come running when they saw the truck because Lawrence always gave each child a sucker. His strategy allowed him to concentrate on selling his groceries.
Over the next several years, at church, Knights of Columbus events etc. Lawrence would hand Angie a sucker.
What a sweet memory to share.
We send our sincere sympathy to Angie's family. You all must have loved her so much.

Father Jim Koenigsfeld, Bob & Patricia Schmitt, Al & Mary Koenigsfeld have made donations in memory of Joseph Streit of Oak Lawn, IL. Joe was the son of Nicholas & Dorothy (Koenigsfeld) Streit.
Joe visited the Store with his family. We are always amazed at how this little country store continues to bring family together. Several generations continue to meet each other at The Roseville General Store.
Joe was quite a guy. Known as the life of the party and loved by young and old. He is remembered as a man who deeply loved his family and his Lord. Joe led by example and encouraged many to love one another as God asks us to do.
Delivering much good news through his 36 years working at the post office, Joe followed the good news of the Lord's plan throughout his life. So many loved him.

Joe will be welcomed into heaven by many good people. Maybe they will gather to cheer on the Cubs.
To Kathy, Amy, Dorothy, and all of Joe's family, we send our sympathy. You had one of the best.
