Charles City County residents are invited to learn more about the proposed Roxbury Energy Storage Project and how battery energy storage technology could benefit the community.

Charles City County mourns the passing of the Honorable Floyd H. Miles Sr., a dedicated public servant whose commitment to the community left a lasting impact. Mr. Miles Sr. served with distinction on the Charles City County Board of Supervisors and in the Virginia House of Delegates.

The County invites the community to come together and honor his life, legacy, and years of dedicated service.

Charles City County encourages all residents to take precautions during the current Code Purple Air Quality Alert affecting portions of Virginia.

A Code Purple designation indicates very unhealthy air quality, meaning everyone may experience health effects from outdoor air pollution, particularly from fine particulate matter such as wildfire smoke. Health officials recommend limiting outdoor exposure until air quality improves.

Residents are encouraged to:
• Stay indoors as much as possible and keep windows and doors closed.
• Avoid strenuous outdoor activities, including exercise.
• Use air conditioning on the recirculation setting, if available.
• Consider wearing a well-fitting N95 or KN95 mask if you must spend extended time outdoors.
• Check on older adults, young children, and individuals with asthma, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions, as they are at greater risk of adverse health effects.

Residents are encouraged to monitor current air quality conditions and forecasts through the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and AirNow.gov before planning outdoor activities.

Charles City County will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as they become available.

PUBLIC NOTICE: Cooling Centers Open July 1st – 3rd

Due to the forecasted extreme heat, Charles City County will open Cooling Centers to provide residents with a safe, air-conditioned place to cool off.

Dates: Wednesday, July 1 – Friday, July 3, 2026
Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Charles City County will hold a public meeting on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Historic Courthouse, located at 10740 Courthouse Road in Charles City.

The meeting will discuss a possible application for public infrastructure funding through the Virginia DHCD Community Development Block Grant Program. The proposed project includes improvements to the wastewater treatment facility that will serve the courthouse area and surrounding schools.

Residents are encouraged to attend and share their comments on community infrastructure needs.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Charles City County will conduct a public meeting on June 18, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Government Administration Building, located at 10900 Courthouse Road, Charles City, VA 23030, to discuss a proposed application for public infrastructure funding through the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program.

The proposed project involves improvements to the wastewater treatment facility that will provide service to the courthouse area and surrounding schools. The purpose of the meeting is to provide information regarding the proposed application and to receive public comments and input from residents regarding the project and community infrastructure needs.

✅ The Charles City Food Pantry WILL BE OPEN during its normal hours June 1–5.

🇺🇸 In observance of the Independence Day holiday, the Food Pantry will be CLOSED June 29 – July 3.
