🩸 World Blood Donor Day 🩸

Today, we celebrate the incredible people who help save lives by donating blood. A single pint can help up to three people in need—from accident victims and surgery patients to those battling cancer and other serious illnesses.

Blood cannot be manufactured—it can only come from generous donors like you. By giving just a small amount of your time, you can make a life-changing difference for someone in our community.

Mark your calendars for the next blood drive in Floyd County!

🏠 Help Make Iowa Homes Healthier — Radon Scholarship Opportunity!

The Floyd County Public Health Department, in partnership with the Marion County Public Health Department and the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, is pleased to share an opportunity focused on addressing radon concerns in rural homes across Iowa.
Currently, there are a limited number of professionals available to assist with radon measurement and mitigation efforts in many rural communities. Through this initiative, our goal is to help increase the number of licensed radon mitigation and measurement specialists serving rural Iowa, ensuring greater accessibility to these important services statewide.

Individuals interested in becoming licensed or certified in radon mitigation or radon measurement are encouraged to apply for financial assistance through a scholarship reimbursement opportunity.

🕷️ Don’t Let a Tick Make You Sick! 🌿

As the weather warms up, many of us are spending more time outdoors. While enjoying parks, trails, and backyards, remember that ticks can carry diseases that affect both people and pets.

✅ Protect Yourself:
• Wear light-colored clothing to spot ticks more easily.
• Use an EPA-registered insect repellent and follow label directions.
• Stay on marked paths and avoid tall grass or brush when possible.
• Check yourself, your children, and pets for ticks after spending time outside.

🩹 If You Find a Tick:
• Remove it as soon as possible using a pair of fine-tipped tweezers.
• Pull upward with steady, even pressure.
• Clean the bite area with soap and water, rubbing alcohol, or hand sanitizer.
• Dispose of the tick safely—never crush it with your fingers.

⚠️ Monitor for Symptoms Over the Next 30 Days:
• Fever or chills
• Nausea or vomiting
• Muscle or joint aches
• Swollen lymph nodes
• A rash, especially one that looks like a “bullseye”

If you develop any of these symptoms after a tick bite, contact your healthcare provider promptly.

A few simple precautions can help you enjoy the outdoors safely. Stay tick aware and help spread the word by sharing this post! 🌳☀️
